National Bestseller

From the New York Times bestselling authors of Abundance, Bold, and The Future Is Faster Than You Think comes a bold exploration of what it means to stay human in a world where technology has granted us godlike power.

In 1968, Stewart Brand declared: “We are as gods—and we might as well get good at it.” Half a century later, that prophecy has come true.

We can rewrite genes, edit embryos, build artificial minds, extend life, and terraform worlds. The old miracles—omniscience, omnipresence, even resurrection—are becoming standard operating procedure. But the real question isn’t whether humanity can play god. It’s whether we can do it wisely.

In We Are as Gods: A Survival Guide for the Age of Abundance, Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler—bestselling authors of Abundance and Bold—return with a sweeping exploration of our species’ next great transformation. Blending hard science with vivid storytelling, they chart humanity’s ascent from scarcity to superabundance—and the psychological, ethical, and existential challenges that come with it.

Across breakthroughs in AI, robotics, genetics, longevity, and consciousness research, they reveal a paradox at the heart of progress: as our external power expands, our inner resilience must evolve to match. Abundance without meaning leads to collapse. Intelligence without wisdom leads to extinction. To thrive in a world of everything, everywhere, all the time, we must learn to wield our godlike powers with humility, creativity, and flow.

Equal parts warning and invitation, We Are as Gods is a map for flourishing in the exponential century. Because the future won’t be built by those who fear what’s coming, but by those who know how to turn chaos into creation.

Glad I read Ray Kurvweil’s books before I listened to this one because they summed it all up really well and painted a vivid picture of what is to come and how to prepare for it.

IMO, I groked this as an educational and provocative challenge to understand and incite co-creation of our collective agency. Agency to create purposeful beneficial social and mindful optimization. The authors describe and promote a framework for embracing the opportunity and responsibility to humanistically integrate exponential technology to create an abundance liberating biological needs and ever-seeding cosmos creativity.

I finished We Are as Gods in two days because I genuinely did not want to stop listening. Peter Diamandis has a rare gift for making exponential technology, global change, longevity, AI, abundance, and human potential feel not only understandable, but urgent and deeply personal.

As a mom, professional, entrepreneur, investor, and lifelong learner, this book hit every part of me. It challenged how I think about the future, reminded me how fast the world is changing, and made me feel even more responsible for staying curious, adaptable, and optimistic.

This is not just a book about technology. It is a call to wake up, think bigger, and participate in what is coming. Five stars. Highly recommend.

Great presentation of all of the issues in an entertaining and educational format. Best of all, presenting the risk and downside with a clear action plan on what we can do.
