Beth March’s sisters will stop at nothing to track down her killer—until they begin to suspect each other—in this “brilliantly snappy…electrifying” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) debut thriller that’s also a bold, contemporary reimagining of the beloved classic Little Women.

When Beth March is found dead in the woods on New Year’s Day, her sisters vow to uncover her murderer.

Suspects abound. There’s the neighbor who has feelings for not one but two of the girls. Meg’s manipulative best friend. Amy’s flirtatious mentor. And Beth’s lionhearted first love. But it doesn’t take the surviving sisters much digging to uncover motives each one of the March girls had for doing the unthinkable.

Jo, an aspiring author with a huge following on social media, would do anything to hook readers. Would she kill her sister for the story? Amy dreams of studying art in Europe, but she’ll need money from her aunt—money that’s always been earmarked for Beth. And Meg wouldn’t dream of hurting her sister…but her boyfriend might have, and she’ll protect him at all costs.

Despite the growing suspicion within the family, it’s hard to know for sure if the crime was committed by someone close to home. After all, the March sisters were dragged into the spotlight months ago when their father published a controversial bestseller about his own daughters. Beth could have been killed by anyone.

Beth’s perspective told in flashback unfolds next to Meg, Jo, and Amy’s increasingly fraught investigation as the tragedy threatens to rip the Marches apart.

Critic reviews

"Listeners will delight as the March sisters uncover secrets and lies in this modern murder mystery. (Thriller. 12-18)"
"Four narrators unite for a compelling performance of this retelling of Little Women. When Beth is found dead, each sister vows to find her killer, and everyone is a suspect. Each chapter is narrated by a different sister: Ferdelle Capistrano as Amy, Emily Tremaine as Meg, Piper Goodeve as Jo, and Caitlin Kelly as Beth in flashbacks. As well as conveying their own characters’ personalities, the narrators are adept at performing each other’s characters so that they sound consistent from chapter to chapter."

Dear Listener,

How does my debut shine in audio?
"I got literal chills when I heard the audiobook for the first time. The performances by Piper Goodeve, Ferdelle Capistrano, Caitlin Kelly, and Emily Tremaine are filled with emotion and bring the story to life in a whole new way. Even if you’ve already read Beth Is Dead, you have to experience this audiobook."– Kate Bernet, author of Beth Is Dead

Overall the story is a little simple however it’s enough to keep me engaged throughout. I loved the pacing and characters. The reveal was not my personal favorite although I did love the theme and the story it told other than the murder mystery.

simple yet effective

Didn't care for the dialogue, but I found the premise entertaining and the overall message heartening.

Interesting Premise!

I was splitting reading this between Audible and a physical copy and this was the rare occasion when I didn’t prefer the audiobook. Jo is ostensibly a high school senior and sounded middle aged in this version. I was mixed on the story - it was an interesting retelling that honored the original in a lot of ways but was also wildly far fetched

Preferred as a physical book
