Story
The bears were hungry and the panther was pacing her cage. It was supposed to be a fun field trip to the wild animal safari. It became a nightmare of blood. The zombie virus spread like wildfire and by noon, they were alone. Safe inside the fences, a group of school kids are the only survivors. Like the animals, they’ve lived their whole lives being cared for and fed, pampered, and loved. Now, they have to learn from each other how to survive, how to hunt, and how to kill.

As the first waves of injured bystanders, guardsmen, and rioters arrived at hospitals, it became apparent that a deadly new disease had been unleashed on the population. Whether the virus was naturally occurring or an escaped lab experiment, Cade hadn't a clue and wasn't especially concerned until he learned of its unprecedented virulence, unusual method of transference, and the fact that, according to the news, it brought the newly dead back to life, semi-mindless, and with an insatiable desire to feed on the flesh of the living.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
Book two in a thrilling new series.
The people that tried to kill the world almost succeeded. They were fiendishly clever but they didn't take into account the vets, the truckers, and the two-fisted fighters who didn't know how to give up.
Gunny and his band of survivors continue their journey along the Zombie Road, saving as many as they can along the way. They power through the undead hordes with their modified semi-trucks to beat the ticking clock of nuclear meltdowns.
Lacy fights her way out of the high-rise office building and the kids who had managed to escape the high school and make it home face a new enemy. Boredom.
New evil raises its ugly head and new heroes are born as they all battle to make it to a place of safety.
Get ready for a bloodbath on the blacktop.

EXCELLENT ADVENTURES IN ZOMBIE LAND!
What a unique twist on normal Zombie fare. Love the convoy and welcoming of strangers along the way to their journey. Of course, there seems to always be a price to pay when people unknown join a group of survivors... wouldn’t be as exciting if it were otherwise.
Onto book three. . .

Right-Wing Babble
The characters are interesting with a ring of authenticity as to the choices they made while faced with the end of the world. I’m a military retiree and the military veteran angle is what compelled me to continue reading in spite of the many red flags of book one. I disliked the Muslim bashing and the right wing talking points this book was littered with. Book one of this series mentioned the Muslim plot to take over the world but I decided to give the story line the benefit of the doubt. Wrong answer! This book took the Muslim bashing to an unacceptable level. I’ll never purchase nor read another one of this author’s work. The right wing faux patriotic babble was so bad in this book that I’m surprised the author didn’t depict one of the characters as an ardent Trump supporter/ zombie slayer.

MAGA zombie book.
It’s not the worst zombie/post apocalypse book I’ve Listened to. And I am very used to a more right leaning pro-gun political lecturing of most of the books in the genre. But this series seams to be more interested in mocking the left and justifying a overly racist plot, than actually telling a story about fighting zombies. And there’s not a lot of subtleties in this book. In the first couple chapters I saw almost everything that was being laying out in the series. I wish these books had a better educator, because the repeating of political believes and descriptions of the transformations of some of the characters are almost Word for Word Petes from the first part of the book to the later on in the park. Don’t spend 10 minutes telling me what a piece of shit a Hollywood producer is because he owns a fast car never held a gun, and then justify your main character being given cocaines so that he could fight better... and then take the character out to fight bikers who spend their day drunk and high. But all of that gets swept under the rug because this book has a very big ax to grind against non-Christian religions and opponents of right wing politics. Again it’s not a BAD zombie book, but more then a few time I had turned it off because I just didn’t want to listen to such a narrow self-righteous view of the world.

Gunney for President!
Great story and great characters! I am not what you'd call a typical zombie fan. I'm a grandmother! But I sure love this series! When you get right down to brass tacks I only want to read about people I care about. The writing makes me care about these people and their journey. Nicely done Mr. Simpson. I am about to get on with my journey with ZR3! My only thing is I would have loved to get some more insight on the "involvement" of Madame President in ZR2. I will say the sparse info has made me madly curious to get to the next book.

If you like a book of bleeding heart....zombies!
Another book chocked full of gory ways to stab, cut, and maul zombies for people who are tired of just shooting them. It IS called Zombie Road. And this one has trains. So, get ready for some harder impact flying zombie gore and body parts. Of course, there's still lots of laughs and jabs between Stabby and band of merry men.
It's a great book with lots of action. A very enjoyable story that is well thought out and put together. But there's also lots to think about in this series if you have the ears to hear it.
Eric A Shelman brings it to life, making each character more real, their emotion tangible. He tells masterfully as only he can.
Thank you David, for writing about our military, and whatever ghosts they bring back. Special Thanks to all of our military!

Action packed and extraordinarily awesome
And extraordinarily awesome zombie apocalypse story. Outstanding cast of characters very well written and a page turner from beginning to end. I read the book and I listen to the audiobook. Both are outstanding. Listening to an audiobook the narrator gives a voice to all of the different characters in a book. The author is extensively knowledgeable on everything he writes. It makes it a believable tell even though it is an imagined story. The narrator does an outstanding job as well and brings the story to life. If you like zombie apocalypse books this series is a definite must read and must listen to. Check them all out

Zombies or More
Loved the story and the narration. I’m clearly not a literary critic yet I feel this is a well crafted book. This book has been charged as racist. It’s a book h fiction people. That said I agree with the politics of the book and while fiction, in the period of PC, it was refreshing. Oh, right, this is a book about zombies, or is it something much more?

History continues to repeat itself.
The truckers and vets from the truck stop continue their escape to safety down Zombie Road. Word got around that it was the Middle Eastern terrorists who released the deadly virus turning the world into a lawless battle ground. The fools thought they could protect themselves while killing all the infidels,, but the plan was ill-conceived from the beginning. As we all know, plans don’t survive first contact with the enemy. “What a different world this would be had the old man (Abraham) fallen off his camel and never had any kids.” We follow Gunny and his band of survivors as they search for a secure place to hole-up against the hordes of zombies roaming the countryside. As they execute their run & gun search for a new homestead their ranks swell with like-survivors picked up along the way. Along with the infected, there are those that can’t play nice with others, preferring to take advantage of the lawlessness set loose upon the world. The tension rises and the action picks up as the showdown between good and evil draws ever closer.

Even better
I cannot listen fast enough to this series. I am absolutely loving it so far. In this instalment, we hear more about the exploits of Gunny, Lacy and their son Jessie. The most “on the edge of my seat” moments, involve Jessie and his friends. There is a twist discovered about who knew beforehand about the virus....I’m sure this will be expended on.
I love the character development and how for the most part they are “ordinary” people. I’m currently listening to book 3 and I will be downloading books 4, 5 & 6.
