Publisher's summary

This heart-pounding slasher by New York Times bestselling author and TikTok sensation Kalynn Bayron is perfect for fans of Tiffany D. Jackson's White Smoke, Friday the 13th, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Get Out.

Charity Curtis has the summer job of her dreams, playing the “final girl” at Camp Mirror Lake. Guests pay to be scared in this full-contact terror game, as Charity and her summer crew recreate scenes from a classic slasher film, Curse of Camp Mirror Lake. The more realistic the fear, the better for business.

But in the last weekend of the season, Charity’s co-workers begin disappearing. And when one ends up dead, Charity’s role as the final girl suddenly becomes all too real. If Charity and her girlfriend Bezi hope to survive the night, they’ll need to figure out what this killer is after. Is there more to the story of Mirror Lake and its dangerous past than Charity ever suspected?

Great story imperfect narration

This is a fun, scary, twisty YA adventure which lives up to Bayron’s previous works. If you enjoyed the others I think you’ll like this too. I think it’s to be expected with this genre, but it is worth reminding yourself to suspend your disbelief and critical thinking, so you can just enjoy the ride.
I was surprised by the narration though. Surely Bayron is established and esteemed enough that publishers get her top quality professionals? That doesn’t seem to have been the case. The narrator wasn’t bad, but there were many instances where she seemed to think a sentence was complete and then realised there was still a word or two on the next line. And the production have recorded the drop-ins in a different way than the rest of the book. So right in the middle of a paragraph there will be a sentence that has a more condensed sound that seems to have been recorded in a much smaller space. Then the book continues on as normal - till the next drop-in. It’s very distracting.
