Acerca de esta escucha

Life is the ultimate game of hide and seek... and the good news is that you're it! With the combination of playful irreverence and penetrating insight that made him a legend in Western philosophy, Alan Watts investigates the surprisingly liberating concept of "the universe as play" found at the heart of Hinduism, Zen, and other wisdom traditions.

Carefully selected by his son and archivist Mark Watts, You're It: On Hiding, Seeking, and Being Found features more than 10 hours of newly restored historic talks from the "spiritual entertainer" who helped define Eastern thought to audiences in the West. Here is a rare chance for listeners to experience the enduring brilliance of one of the greatest spiritual voices of the 20th century.

My thinking was provoked.

Alan Watts died 11 years after I was born, and I had not been exposed to his work until now. And I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this recording of his discussions. It made me think. It made me laugh. It confirmed some of my deepest held convictions and dispelled a few misconceptions, especially my opinions, which apparently were not well formed and insufficiently researched, of Zen Buddhism and Hinduism. This collection of Watts speaking before small groups of people some time in the late 60s or early 70s is poorly recorded and often long, but it felt perfectly captured and all-too-short to my ears.

Should be required reading for high school

While you won't be in agreement with everything Alan Watts says, nor find all of his topics compelling, you're bound to find new perspectives in this book. Even if you've studied Hinduism, Buddhism, and contemporary philosophy, you're bound to learn something significant about these topics from Alan Watts. Maybe you'll emerge from listening to this book a bit more enlightened, a bit more tolerant, and a bit wiser. I feel as though I did.

Fantastic collection of eye-opening lectures

This is a well-selected collection of Alan Watts' lectures. The audio quality varies a bit, and is never crystal clear, but that is the nature of this material.

The content is well presented and there are short, modern audio breaks between the lectures.

If I had to offer a criticism it would be I would like the audiobook chapters to match the content sections - they don't seem to be related and it is a minor annoyance. Minor indeed, but that is the worst flaw I can point out with this superb series of lectures.

Will listen to over and over

Eloquent, funny, comforting. Will listen to often for moments of spontaneous insight, joy, and comfort. This format beats listening to his talks piecemeal on YouTube.

Watts is always a badass isn't he?

These are actual recorded lectures from watts. They are fantastic. Most of the material is timeless, more wisdom than information.

I'm happy I read this

What did you love best about You're It!?

I did not find that this has anything to do with hiding, seeking, or being found. But that's fine because Watts helped to broaden my thinking.

Fantastically great!

Would you listen to You're It! again? Why?

This Alan Watts collection is so great that I've listened to it three times, unlike any other audio book I have. Sure, he tells the same joke or story more than once and his fawning description of the Japanese tea ceremony was dull but Alan more than makes up for that with brilliant content delivered with incredible wit.

I Love Alan Watts! Extraordinary!

High School History class was my least favorite subject, however I now have a completely renovated interest in History thanks to Alan Watts and Yuval Noah Harari (author of the book "Sapiens"). Great audios, all. Thank you to Alan's son for making these recordings available on Audible.com.
