Publisher's Summary

Straight-talking, best-selling Pitbull of Parenting Larry Winget says "This is not a fix your kid book. It's a fix the way you parent book. You owe it to your kids to parent with a plan!"

Being a parent is the toughest job in the world, especially with the increasing number of negative influences and pitfalls facing our kids today, from childhood obesity and out-of-control celebrity culture to the dangers of the internet and credit card debt. Larry Winget has never been one to shy away from tough truths, and what he says here may well be difficult for some parents to swallow: we are in the midst of a crisis with our kids. Kids today are over-indulged, over-entertained, under-achieving, and under-disciplined, with a sense of entitlement that is crippling society. And the real problem is that parents aren't paying attention to what's going on. If they were they would realize that most kids today barely read and write, except with their thumbs on their cell phones!

Well-behaved, respectful kids are the exception, not the rule, and for the most part, parents are to blame. Responsible parenting is about beginning with the end in mind and parenting with a plan. But most parents have never stopped to consider what kind of adult they want to raise. They have all this fun creating a baby, but they don't have a plan for the end product. Larry's message to parents: Teach your kids to become the best adults they can be. But don't expect your kids to improve until you improve.

Your Kids Are Your Own Fault covers familiar lessons and principles that have led Larry's readers to greater success with money, career, and goal setting, this time at a level where they can be taught to children. This book shows parents how to design the adult they want their kid to become and work backwards to make sure it happens. Kids don't come with an instruction manual, but finally being a parent does!

Helicopter parents beware!

I love Larry Winget's works. I have a couple of his other audiobooks and while I have had a dressing down provided by Mr. Winget in regards to behaviour I exhibited in regards to my finances - what he said was right. I couldn't argue. That's what you will get in this book. Common sense, direct and in your face guidance that you cannot argue with. There are no strict guidelines or techniques but there is an ABUNDANCE of information about how to raise responsible, productive adults. That's what you're doing - raising adults, not raising children. If you are responsible for guiding the life of a burgeoning adult, and are able to look at your behaviour and the future adult's behaviour candidly and honestly you will get LOTS out of this book!

What are you willing to do for your kids?

This is my first Larry Winget book and I love it. He puts you on track to raise responsible adults and makes you look at what you're doing (or not doing) with your kids today. As a parent of a teenager I can relate to just about everything Larry has to say, from the current state of our young people to how we are raising our kids and why they are turning out the way that they are. It made me take a hard look at myself and I've resolved to "fix me and my parenting" so that my son will benefit and turn out to be a better adult.

LOVE the HONESTY!

Not a good book if you don't want to hear the plan hard truth! Otherwise you will love it! He said everything that we already knew deep down inside; brought it out and slapped you up side your head with it. Also bringing to light many things that could help that I didn't really think of.

GREAT BOOK! Thanks

Too the POINT! (a must read for ALL parents.)

Larry does it again!
He uses his straight to the point personality to focus the problem where it belongs, on the parents. As parents we need to wake up and take care of our kids - bravo Larry. I am listening a second time too.

Loved everything about it!

I don't usually take the time to write reviews but I loved this book so much I decided a review was in order. I'm a clinical psychologist and I work with lots of parents and teens. The sugar coated messages conveyed by most parenting books are doing families a terrible disservice with disastrous results. Mr. Winget's style is not for the faint of heart or those who don't want to hear ideas that will make them uncomfortable. I think the author successfully walks the line between being "in your face" and maintaining intelligent humor and credibility. Usually when I see an audiobook narrated by the author I'm hesitant to buy it because often the author believes s/he is a better narrator than s/he is. Not so with this book. Mr. Wingets reading of his own book adds a great deal to the overall experience of it. This book is a rare jewel and I will be recommending it to clients who need a wake up call or just want some straight talk about being the best parent they can be.

So True!!!

What made the experience of listening to Your Kids Are Your Own Fault the most enjoyable?

Loved this book, it proves what I have been saying all along...if you talk to your kids, they will listen. And yes, the way your kids are really is YOUR fault. Who else do they have to learn from during their first few years of life?

"You want the truth...you can't handle the truth"

If you have read any of Winglet???s material or listened to him on TV, you know he doesn't worry about hurting anyone???s feelings. I thought this book was great for anyone who has kids living under their roof (regardless of the kid???s age). You may not agree with everything Larry has to say but his point blank, in your face style of making you pointing out the problem has irrefutable truths. I think it???s great that Larry narrated the book ??? you won???t be disappointed in the listening. Love him or hate him, his common sense approach is hard to argue with.

Love this guy. His honesty, humor and directness is refreshing!

He had me laughing out loud. It’s Powerful, thought-provoking, a real take-responsibility for your own life attitude. Love it! It aligns with my thinking but there is definitely self-assessment required in this book. You must take action and do some work. It’s a rich and valuable read. I highly recommend this it for anyone.
