Resumen del Editor

Are you frustrated with a lack of results at work? Have you hit a wall? Are you uninspired, stuck in a rut, feeling underappreciated? Well, good news: your success is not up to your boss, your manager, your employees, or the economy. It's up to YOU. Business is never bad, people are just bad at being in business. If that makes you mad, this book is for you. Larry Winget hacks through the bad advice given in most business books, explaining why:

  • Teamwork doesn't work
  • We reward the wrong behaviors and focus on the wrong things
  • Expectations are low, standards are even lower
  • We are all stealing from our companies and ourselves
  • Our co-workers are really only "co-goers"

Winget shows you how to take responsibility for your own success and get excited about your possibilities once again. Whether you punch a clock, own your own business, or manage other people, Larry's advice will work for you. Find out why:

  • Success is simple
  • Results are everything
  • You don't have to love your job (but it helps!)
  • You gotta serve somebody
  • Nothing happens until something is sold

You will be surprised, you will laugh, and you will discover motivation you never knew you had. Let Larry Winget shock you out of your comfort zone and into a whole new league.

    Reseñas de la Crítica

"Larry Winget simultaneously takes on everyone from smart-ass employees and motivational speakers to bad service, bad salespeople and bad bosses. It's not a fair fight. Winget has an unfair advantage - he tells the truth and doesn't give a damn if you like it or not. But like it or hate it, Larry will challenge you to be as amazing as you know you are." (Joe Calloway, author of Work Like You're Showing Off!)

"Thin skinned? No sense of humor? Don't read this book! I warned you. On the other hand, if you want to read a book that cuts through the normal fluff and challenges you personally, then pay attention: Larry Winget will irritate you to be a better employee and a better person." (Mark Sanborn, CSP, CPAE, President, Sanborn & Associates, Inc., author of The Fred Factor)

"Winget sets a high threshold for delivering a likeable, useful book that will educate and promote behavioral changes. He delivers...Winget’s advice is solid: delivering results is the most fulfilling career move one can make." (Publishers Weekly)

Not for anyone who already has a solid work ethic

Would you try another book from Larry Winget and/or Larry Winget?

Absolutely. I've read 3 ohers and enjoyed them and found them insightful

What do you think your next listen will be?

Lead the Field by Earl Nightengale

What about Larry Winget’s performance did you like?

    His in your face attitude

Who do you think would benefit most from listening to It's Called Work for a Reason!?

    Anyone slacking in their jobs

    Any additional comments?

I was hoping this would be about how to get ahead in busines. But, like Larry's other books it's about waking people up. Which is good. However my work is not one area of life I have been slacking in so this book was not much good for me.

    Wonderful book!

This book should be required reading/listening for all employees, business owners and recent graduates. It is to the point, and really hits home. We are requiring all our employees to listen to this book and I am encouraging my nephew, who's graduating from high school this month to read it too. Definately worth the $$$.

    Blunt and to the point!

If you could sum up It's Called Work for a Reason! in three words, what would they be?

    Get to Work!

What did you like best about this story?

Winget tells it to you in a straight forward easy to understand narrative.

Would you be willing to try another one of Larry Winget’s performances?

    Yes.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from It's Called Work for a Reason!?

While I already held some of Winget's views on the workplace, this has reinforced the need to be straight with people for the good of yourself, the employees and the business.

    Love love love this guy

I listen to this book years ago decided to revisit it. It reminded me of how much I absolutely love this author. If you want a no nonsense kick in the ass get off your butt and get something done this is your book.

    Unhelpful for strong workers

    Any additional comments?

Based on the other reviews of this book, I seem to be an outlier in that I did not find it helpful. My issues are as follows:#1 It is useless for strong employees. He discusses at some length that people who are at work need to be doing work. We have all worked with people who will spend their working hours on facebook. I doubt too many people who purchase this book are the same who spend the day not working. If you work hard, work smart and focus on productivity already you will learn nothing here. #2. There is a strong focus on managing. Nothing wrong with this and if you are a manager you may find it helpful. If you are not a manager a good portion of the book will not be relevant. #3 Periodic nonsense. He endorses firing your worst employees (makes sense) and your best employees (he thinks they will quit), leaving the middle 60% to fill these rolls expecting those in the middle to become great like the people he just fired. Now you have another batch of great employees which one should expect you should now fire. Another example is making a "to be done" list rather than a "to do list." #4 You already know this guy. You know a guy (and its usually a guy) who thinks that "back in the day" all employees were great. The guy who complains about company policy to the checkout person who plays no role in creating policy. The guy who thinks he knows everything. This is that guy.

    WOW!

This audiobook has made an impression on myself, my boyfriend and my coworkers. Humor is a wonderful thing and it helped the harsher points go down a little easier.
The "mirror technique" is not going to fly with everyone but for me, it is totally empowering to take personal responsibility for what I want to change.
"It's my own damn fault and I'm going to fix it" is my new motto.

    You can't handle the truth!

Larry tells it the way it is... very in your face and confrontational!

I highly recommend this audio book. It will inspire you to do better. The truth hurts - but it's for your own good.

    Not for everyone

If you don't like hearing the truth about yourself you'll hate this book. On the other hand if you want to improve yourself Im sure that Larry has at least one idea that will work for you in this book.

Take it with a grain of salt

Larry Winget is a very entertaining speaker. He tells us so. Much of his wisdom rings true. His opinions are provocative. But they are just his opinions - again he tells us so. The book is not a prescription for living - that fact makes the book better. The book lagged in the middle - but ended with a flourish. It was a breeze to listen to it over the course of two days. Two thumbs up.
