Morrigan Crow, the girl who was cursed to die on Eventide, has escaped her deadly fate and found a new home in the fantastical city of Nevermoor. She has also discovered that she has a strange and magical ability: she is a Wundersmith, one of the very few who can summon and control the mysterious energy behind the city's magic. But is being a Wundersmith a blessing, or another curse?
Now that Morrigan and her best friend Hawthorne are proud scholars in the elite Wundrous Society, she is sure that she's found a place to belong at last, but life is far from perfect. Can Morrigan prove that she deserves to be in the Society - or will an unexpected new enemy ruin her new life?

Critic reviews
There is more extraordinary world-building, as well as tough ethical decisions, in Wundersmith, Jessica Townsend's superlative follow-up to the unmissable Nevermoor.
Enter the world of Nevermoor and its fantastical inhabitants, and be utterly enchanted.
Townsend's sophomore endeavor once again fully immerses her readers in a world that intermixes the magic of the Emerald City with Howl's pithiness, Percy Jackson's humor, Coraline's darkness, and perhaps a dash of the depravity of Katniss' District One. Fantasy fans will not be disappointed. Savvy readers will appreciate how the themes of otherness, group privilege, prejudice, and activism are masterfully interwoven into the overall plot. The only sad spot in an otherwise enjoyable text is the hanging question: How long until Book 3 comes out? A worthy title that deserves a spot on the fantasy shelves.
This series is a wonderful read for all ages and I look forward to continuing my adventures with Morrigan watching she overcomes all the obstacles thrown in her way while growing into the powers she has been given.
The eagerly anticipated second instalment of Nevermoor is no disappointment and the many readers who are bursting at the seams waiting to get their hands on a copy will be delighted.
Wundersmith: The Calling Of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend is the perfect addition to the Nevermoor series and a must read for everyone.
Jessica Townsend's much awaited second novel is powerful and relatable, resonating with themes of friendship, loyalty, inclusiveness, activism, happiness and humour and the power of good and evil.
