A breathtaking, enchanting new series by debut author Jessica Townsend, about a cursed girl who escapes death and finds herself in a magical world--but is then tested beyond her wildest imagination.

Morrigan Crow is cursed. Having been born on Eventide, the unluckiest day for any child to be born, she's blamed for all local misfortunes, from hailstorms to heart attacks--and, worst of all, the curse means that Morrigan is doomed to die at midnight on her eleventh birthday.

But as Morrigan awaits her fate, a strange and remarkable man named Jupiter North appears. Chased by black-smoke hounds and shadowy hunters on horseback, he whisks her away into the safety of a secret, magical city called Nevermoor.

It's then that Morrigan discovers Jupiter has chosen her to contend for a place in the city's most prestigious organization: the Wundrous Society. In order to join, she must compete in four difficult and dangerous trials against hundreds of other children, each with an extraordinary talent that sets them apart--an extraordinary talent that Morrigan insists she does not have. To stay in the safety of Nevermoor for good, Morrigan will need to find a way to pass the tests--or she'll have to leave the city to confront her deadly fate.

Perfect for fans of the Harry Potter series and Neil Gaiman, this fast-paced plot and imaginative world has a fresh new take on magic that will appeal to a new generation of readers.

I learned of this title through a Kindle recommendation. Deciding to give it a try, the offer for this audio at a discounted price if bought with the ebook came up. After listening to a sample, I took a chance. I'm so glad I made that choice! The book itself is very good and would be well worth reading on its own. However, when you add in the audiobook, it takes the whole book experience to another level. Gemma Whelan has done an amazing job on this audio. It is just enthralling. Her voice for this title is perfect and she does a nice job with the characters. The audio added a whole other dimension to the story that just enriched every chapter. i looked forward to every turn of the page. The bit of music at the very end of each chapter was well suited to the mood and added to the story instead of detracting from it. It also gave me extra time to stop at the end of the chapter if I needed to. I ended up heading back to the Kindle store to get the second book and audiobook, Wundersmith, so I could continue on my reading journey. I suggest anyone reading Nevermoor do the same. This is a great story and a great audiobook. Not to be missed.

A great audiobook of a great book.

this book had moments of brilliance, a few of "oh please..." but mostly an enjoyable tale and a wonderful book for the younger minded.

Fun romp with a few darker twists, not too scary.

I am totally enthralled with the Nevermoor world and Morrigan Crow. This first book in the series has a similar story arc as the first Harry Potter book, but explodes with richer details in a world far removed from our own.

Highly recommend.

I loved, loved, loved this book. I ordered the sequel before I finished the first one. Fantasy can be so repetitive, but I found this story to be refreshing and entertaining.

Outstanding novel!!

What a wonderful new discovery this series is, I love it. It is a bit like the Harry Potter series but totally different. I like all the characters and Morg and of course Jupiter. So looking forward to continuing the story.
