Wounded Mind, Shattered System

Though the subject matter merits a slathering diatribe, the authors deliver a restrained, impeccably researched indictment of the war machine's ignominious disregard for the human beings who march into amorphous conflicts against variegated enemies and have the nerve to stay alive.

Until the end of WWI, traumatized soldiers were dispatched by firing squads and died as deserters and cowards.

Today's traumatized soldier faces death from a firing squad of bureaucratic indifference and mendacity.

The first half of this book is devoted to the neurochemistry, neuroanatomy, etiology and sequelae of stress. It's easily the most comprehensive text I've read on the topic and the narration is flawless and engaging . If you're looking for a deeper understanding of the stress/trauma machine, you won't find better in audio format.

The second half of the book concerns the military industrial machine, it reads like a true crime page turner... unimaginably true and undeniably criminal.
