Publisher's Summary

The sequel to the number one best seller, Jimmy Barnes' unforgettable childhood memoir, Working Class Boy.

It’s a life too big and a story too extraordinary for just one book. Jimmy Barnes has lived many lives - from Glaswegian migrant kid to iconic front man, from solo superstar to proud father of his own musical clan. In this hugely anticipated sequel to his critically acclaimed best seller, Working Class Boy, Jimmy picks up the story of his life as he leaves Adelaide in the back of an old truck with a then unknown band called Cold Chisel.

A spellbinding and searingly honest reflection on success, fame and addiction, this self-penned memoir reveals how Jimmy Barnes used the fuel of childhood trauma to ignite and propel Australia’s greatest rock ’n’ roll story. But beyond the combustible merry-go-round of fame, drugs and rehab and across the Cold Chisel, solo and soul years, this is a story about how it’s never too late to try to put things right.

true title . . .

bare bones, gritty and sometimes brutal account of a life lived by the lad of a poor immigrant family.
this could be the story of any one of the families living in an outer suburban area of Australia.
being read by the author gives it an authenticity that makes the recounting easy to listen to and which I found myself looking forward to picking up again . . .
regardless of your interest in Cold Chisel or Jimmy Barnes I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book to listen to.

Reality avoidance or drugged artificial reality?

Jimmy continues to describe his life and adventures as a rock singer as he travels the world seeking relief from the pain of childhood and all the running since then when nothing helps for long. Family provides minimal stability and friends join in the party. See how the rich and famous live. And die. And try to change.

frank and honest

I loved listening to Barnes tell his story. Extremely honest and frank, and raw, I never knew how much he struggled through his life but have always appreciated the soulfulness of his storytelling as a vocalist.
I especially loved hearing about the music industry in Australia with so many familiar names that have shaped the industry today. Really well done.

Inspirational!

Great listen, you actually feel like you are getting to know Jimmy and the world he rolls in.
If you have ever wondered why addicts and alcoholics do what they do or how some people can be spiritually bereft dispite being outwardly successful t hgen this is the book for you.
do not be put oiff be Jimmy filling the narrators spot at it lends the book authenticity and rest assured that Jimmy attacks the job with gusto.
He isn't as smooth as a professional actor but he was better than solid and really sounded good.
Do yourself a favour

I'm addicted to this man!

I never grew up in Australia so didn't know Cold Chisel but I'm now a big fan and have been searching Spotify to hear every album. You are a gifted story teller Jimmy (both through music and sharing your life story) and I'm addicted. Thanks for sharing the good, the bad and the ugly - the love for your family, friends and "your Jane" shines brightly and I can't wait to read more. Love your raw honesty - best bio I've heard (and I read them all).

a superb listen. Couldn't put these books down.

I thoroughly enjoyed these two books. There is so much more to his life than I was previously aware. I especially appreciated the raw honesty - it feels like Jimmy has laid it all bare.

A Fascinating Life. Worth Sharing

Jimmy's story traces years of Australian music, culture, and society. It was fascinating to hear Jimmy talk and *remember* the places, people, and occasions he was talking about. Child of 70s or 80s Australia? This book will sing to you. Check it out!

Excellent - Loved it

Totally fascinated listening to Jimmy share his harrowing story of growing up in both Scotland and Australia, enduring extreme poverty, drug/alcohol abuse, how he met his beautiful wife and his rise to stardom.

Barnesy! ❤️

Exhausting but worth it. If it wears you out, think what it did to him.
