Mispronunciations

The book was historically interesting but parts felt forced. Still, a worthwhile read 150 years later. The narrator frequently mispronounced words, such as saying “belly-ed” for what was surely “belied.”

Wonderful book. Superbly narrated

Though a century and a half old, this book is amazingly relevant and touching. Women suffering today's "loneliness epidemic" can gain insights from the heroine's efforts to seek nurturing friendships and meaningful work. It shows the challenges pre-20th century American women faced who sought independence, a decent living and a solid life partner. It portrays heartbreaking ways the U.S. Civil War and the sufferings of slavery raked through people's lives.

The narrator's gentle, expressive voice beautifully depicted the heroine's efforts to work through difficult decisions and problems. I felt authentically carried through the shocks, joys, deliberations, hopes and disappointments encountered on her quest. The American characters, men and women, old and young, quirky, self-centered and humorous, who came into her life are also beautifully rendered.

I have always been a Louisa M. Alcott fan!

When this book came out on Audible, I immediately ordered it. I have only listened to 2 chapters, but am hooked. Knowing Ms Alcott, I knew she was a forward thinker, and had integrated her beliefs in all her works, including this one.

Work

This was a very interesting look at life in America in and around the civil war. I had no idea women did this. Narration by Rebecca H Lee was good. Ienjoyed it. I was given this book free for an honest review.

Enjoyable Listen

I had always wanted to read more works by Alcott since Little Women has always been a favorite story of mine, but never got around to it. It was great being able to hear her work in audiobook format. The narration was great and kept me engaged throughout the story. I got to the point where I was seeing it in my mind. Great audiobook!
