Nisha has trained since a young child to develop her Qi—internal energy—with the goal of becoming a Qi'advisor. She is still a student at the Qi'temple when the unimaginable happens: war breaks out and she is chosen to be a Qi'advisor to a duke, although untried. Rhybac's king is dead, the kingdom in chaos, and warriors out of the Sands are circling for the kill. As a Qi'advisor surrounded by greed, treachery, and civil war, she must risk her life to reveal what others cannot or refuse to see. The fate of Rhybac, its people, and even its enemies are in her young hands.

Author Daems always delivers a heroine with character, usually with agency, wits, and grit. He delivers her here. Read and enjoy.
A book I will listen to again.

The rest of this review is directed to Clem Daems if he / you read this.
I have read all your books with one exception. By that, I mean I have listened to most, although some I have read only the ebook.
You rely in many books on quite a few named places, assuming from you few words that we can picture where they are in relation to each other ... and who wants which and what that means. A map or several would be dearly appreciated by this reader.

Second, you tend to give readers long lists when summaries would do. This book is blessedly free of this. Lists like: "You target warships LB1, LB2, LB3, HB2, HB3, and LB4. I will target LB5. LB6, HB1, HB4, and HB5."
When a writer goes into such exactness about details, I assume there is a plot or character reason for it. And pay attention. With many of your hyper-specific lists I've never found the purpose. I mentally skip the lists and default to ~ "You shoot at some and I'll shoot at others."

I hope you and your Muse are doing new creative writing.

Well crafted heroine
