This program is read by Ben Miles, who played Thomas Cromwell in the Royal Shakespeare Company adaptation of Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies.

Winner of the 2009 Man Booker Prize

Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction

A New York Times best seller

England in the 1520s is a heartbeat from disaster. If the king dies without a male heir, the country could be destroyed by civil war. Henry VIII wants to annul his marriage of 20 years and marry Anne Boleyn. The pope and most of Europe opposes him. Into this impasse steps Thomas Cromwell: a wholly original man, a charmer and a bully, both idealist and opportunist, astute in reading people, and implacable in his ambition. But Henry is volatile: one day tender, one day murderous. Cromwell helps him break the opposition, but what will be the price of his triumph?

In inimitable style, Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall is "a darkly brilliant reimagining of life under Henry VIII.... Magnificent." (The Boston Globe)

Featured Article: The Best Historical Fiction Audiobooks

Often based on real people, events, and scenarios, historical fiction gives us the opportunity to learn about worlds and times we will never experience while introducing fascinating characters and stories set in their midst. Sometimes, the genre can even give us a peek into hidden storylines that routinely go unmentioned in traditional history books, showing us that those of ages past are perhaps not so different from ourselves.

Rich Historical Detail • Complex Characters • Vivid Prose • Compelling Storytelling • Unique Perspective

Just brilliant ❤️ we'll written, well-researched, and well-narrated. I also watched the BBC series protection and while I enjoyed that production, the audible version was superb. The reader did an excellent job not only with the prose, but with all the characters. I actually enjoyed hearing this more than viewing it. This series is not light reading/hearing, if you like something to sink your teeth into. Beautiful mix of creativity and history. Excellent ❤️ what a treasure Hilary Mantel left for those who love reading (hearing)and history. I will definitely be buying the written version of the trilogy 😊

Wolf Hall is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read. The author’s skill in weaving the subtleties of the historic period, including its religious, economic and political tides and the personalities involved is astounding. The more you know about that era, the more she tweaks your interest.

Not Hilary Mantel around to write is such a tragic loss to us. She sketches the environment to make you feel like your in the room and just observing the characters deliver their lines and on serve the the nuance. Can’t see enough great things about it.

Masterpiece

Admittedly, I listened to only a chapter or two of the audiobook as I found I needed to sight read Wolf Hall on Kindle, but I found both the story and the narration to be top rate. If and when I reread this book, I may just go the audio route as I’ve got the sense of the story and will be able to follow it better.

Excellent Writing

she should have won a 3rd Booker prize for, if nothing else, the last 30 pages of The Mirror and the Light.

i love everything about the entire trilogy.

I found the historical characters in his novel to be fascinating, and the book was incredibly well narrated!

This is a great book and I look forward to listening to the next one.
While the narrator was very good in most places he had a tendency to smack his mouth and lips. You ts kind of gross after a while. Also he kept changing the accents from French to German-ish. A little odd

Interesting story not so great narrator

If you liked TV series, definitely read the book. It is fuller, better and presents the characters in a much more realistic light.
