In 1975, a baby just minutes old is taken from its devastated mother. In 2010, the gruesome corpse of a nun is found in a Dublin public park. Detective Inspector Tom Reynolds and his team are on the scene and he’s convinced the murder is linked to historical events that took place in the infamous former Magdalene Laundries, institutions for “fallen women.”
As Reynolds and his team follow the trail to an isolated convent, everything seems perfectly normal and it seems perhaps they’ve followed the wrong lead. But it soon becomes disturbingly clear that the killer is amongst them and determined to exact further vengeance for the sins of the past.

Good one!
So glad I found this author! Really enjoyed this book. Am on to the next book in this series. I think the narrator was pretty good, but often read with a monotonous tone of voice, and I feel bad for saying this, but it sounded like he wears dentures? Please forgive me if I'm wrong about that.

A detailed picture of a horrible history.
I’ll say up front I’m a huge fan of all things Ireland & crime fiction. Jo Spain ticked every box for me. I’m rarely surprised when the killer is revealed, so I was happily surprised at the end. I’ll ride along with Det. Tom Reynolds & team from now on. My 4 stars are for the narrator, he’s perfectly fine & easy to listen to, just not stellar. I’ll listen again.

Wonderfully gripping
Amazing, highly recommend. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Al the characters are likeable and intriguing. If you like tana French, you’ll love this!
