Publisher's summary

Aaron Whitworth hasn't had control over most aspects of his life, but he's always taken pride in being an honorable businessman and better-than-average horseman. When both of those claims are threatened, he makes the desperate decision to hire the horse trainer of a traveling circus as a temporary jockey for his racehorses.

Sophia Fitzroy knows that most horsemen don't take her seriously because she's a woman, but she can't pass up the opportunity to get away from the tumultuous world of travel and performing. As she fights for the right to do the work she was hired for, she learns the fight for Aaron's guarded heart might be an even more worthwhile challenge.

As secrets come to light and past vulnerabilities are confronted, will Aaron and Sophia sacrifice their former dreams and forge a new one together - against all odds?

Friendship, Romance, and Honor

I am beyond happy to finally read Aaron Whitworth’s story — to know him better, and to have him be truly known. This is such a lovely story of friendship, honor, and of course romance. Sophia is the perfect love interest for Aaron. She has plenty of mystery and history herself, along with a delightful attitude toward life and lots of spark and humor.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of Kristi Ann Hunter’s stories and this one is no exception. One of the aspects of her stories that I love most is that characters from previous stories continue to be part of her ongoing legacy of stories… And yet each book could stand on its own as well.

I also listened to some parts of this book on audiobook when that worked best for me and I will say that the narration was exceptionally well done as well.

Loved it

Listened to it the day it came out, love all her characters. They have become like family and I return to them again and again, sometimes to refresh my memory. All her book contain some of the same people, and it just feels like catching up with an old friend.

Recommend!

Fantastic and fun story. Narrator made it come alive with the accents. One of the more enjoyable books I've listened to in quite awhile. Loved the main characters and also the brother/sister relationship in this book. Thank you Kristi Ann Hunter for another great book!

Love, love, LOVED this one!

I greatly enjoyed the first installment, and loved this one even more. Will there be a story for Rigby, or possibly Jonas? Whoever is next, I’m ready!

I also like this author’s writing. I plan to go through more of her catalogue.

Nice and sweet but predictable

It was just fine, but you knew it was coming and it took a long time to get there. But it was sweet.

Sweet story

A charming little story, Winning the Gentleman, lacks a strong challenge and a clear climax. It had been some time since I had read the first story in the series and I was confused about all of the characters. The author might have found a clearer way to introduce the secondary characters. Despite my criticism I did enjoy the book. It was an entertaining read.

Great!

Great book! Great author! Great Narrator! Kristi Ann Hunter not only takes me to far away places and times but there is a great deal of encouragement that goes into it as well.

Winning Regency

For those who have been long-time Kristi Ann Hunter fans, Aaron’s story has arrived!! We first met him in A Defense of Honor, and he had a larger role in Vying for the Viscount, so I was thrilled he finally gets the leading role in Winning the Gentleman.

And oh, boy does he have a time of it! It starts with a wager and a fired jockey then takes you to a circus and the hiring of a new jockey…a very memorable one.
Despite his illegitimacy, Aaron is a gentleman through and through. While he prefers to avoid them, he understands the workings of the ton and the repercussions of the impetuous decisions of some of his friends. He is also a man of his word when it comes to agreements.

When he meets Sophia, he’s both suspicious and entranced. The woman can talk (which just adds Hunter’s characteristic humor), but she also knows her horses (more so than many of the men who own them).

The romance between Aaron and Sophia is set at the perfect pace, their somewhat opposite personalities made for some delightful (and a few frustrating) scenes, some fictional friends from previous books make cameos, and the history of horse racing in Newmarket is well-researched. Hunter once again delivers an enjoyable regency romance that is hard to put down.

The narration drew me in and kept my attention throughout the story as well.

Love love it!

Excellent story! I loved the feisty Irish jockey. And the friendships and bro-sister were wonderful as well. I binge-listened all day!
