Publisher's summary

Joy and despair, light and dark, you can’t have one without the other.

Devlin Addams has recently returned home from Afghanistan. Haunted by memories that he survived the fighting while his buddies didn’t and chased by the knowledge his mom is crazy, he’s having trouble acclimating himself to civilian life. Now, armed with a dog and a therapist, he constantly battles the urge to end it all.

Lia Farry - because her Fae name is a mouthful - has tumbled into the Mortal Realm through the Veil between worlds by mysterious circumstances. Thrust into a new and harsh human existence, finding anything to be happy about is hard. If she can’t go home, she’ll have to make it work.

Forced to interact, Dev’s protective instincts kick in, but he’s unprepared for the onslaught of desire Lia represents. He wants a normal life, but not at the expense of getting involved. Lia soothes his torment, yet she’s battling her own problems. Wanting Dev is a dangerous prospect. Add in a meddling Fae queen, and suddenly, life as they know it will change forever.

Love is at stake. A leap of faith is all they have to depend on.

Fairies

I’m not big on fantasy stories, but this one tugged at heart. A broken man who found his life due to a lost fairy. Brilliant!

The Fee are real

Devlin is smacked in the face with this realization when he is walking his dog that the far are indeed real. He is a war vet suffering from PTSD and now is forced to learn things he believed made up are real. I don't want to say what exactly made him realize they existed but it was funny to see his protective nature for Lia get the better of him. He took a strange woman home even with the strange things she said. I loved her reactions to all the human things she wasn't used to. This story was a lot of fun and Lia needed Devlin to help her remain safe. This story is pretty much driven entirely by the two main characters since it doesn't have a super complex plot though it was still very enjoyable. It was an easy listen and I didn't have to focus too much on it.

enjoyed it

Would I listen to it again: probably
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: reasonably
What did I like about the story? good pace, engaging characters and an interesting story

Entertaining story about a war vet (with PTSD who is a bit of a di*k) and a "fairy" who finds herself stuck in the human world.
Devlin finds enough humanity in himself to help the strange and innocent girl who has crossed his path. Lia see's something more in the gruff angry man - but how can she have more? - for the fae, to stay in the human world could be deadly.

Narrator comment: I'm a bit on the fence about the narration. Geoffrey Boyes has done a reasonable job narrating Winging It. All the characters had different voices and their personalities come through, the emotions of the story were all there and i enjoyed audio experience, i'm just not sure the mix of accents for the characters were smooth enough or flowed together enough to put this on a re-listen for me.

Just couldn't get past the narration

Seems like a good story line which made me keep listening as long as I did... but honestly, I would like to see this narration redone. Just couldn't keep listening. :-(
