The long-awaited explosive climax to the first arc of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive—the iconic epic fantasy masterpiece that has sold more than 10 million copies, from acclaimed bestselling author Brandon Sanderson.

Dalinar Kholin challenged the evil god Odium to a contest of champions with the future of Roshar on the line. The Knights Radiant have only ten days to prepare—and the sudden ascension of the crafty and ruthless Taravangian to take Odium’s place has thrown everything into disarray.

Desperate fighting continues simultaneously worldwide—Adolin in Azir, Sigzil and Venli at the Shattered Plains, and Jasnah in Thaylenah. The former assassin, Szeth, must cleanse his homeland of Shinovar from the dark influence of the Unmade. He is accompanied by Kaladin, who faces a new battle helping Szeth fight his own demons . . . and who must do the same for the insane Herald of the Almighty, Ishar.

At the same time, Shallan, Renarin, and Rlain work to unravel the mystery behind the Unmade Ba-Ado-Mishram and her involvement in the enslavement of the singer race and in the ancient Knights Radiant killing their spren. And Dalinar and Navani seek an edge against Odium’s champion that can be found only in the Spiritual Realm, where memory and possibility combine in chaos. The fate of the entire Cosmere hangs in the balance.

i normally love brandon sanderson. the woke agenda stifled my enjoyment. most of the romantic scenes could have been tossed and it wouldn't have inhibited the plot.

I’ve really enjoyed the stormlight series, but the infusion of the gay characters isn’t necessary. Is Sanderson trying to get a Netflix deal? I wish the depth of characters could develop the ideals of the radiants without being tainted by controversial sins that can only have subversive effect. This is a wonderful story otherwise.

Why the woke?

I write this with the intention of being spoiler free. The story up to day 10 was amazing but day 10 left me angry at the story to the point that I almost stopped listening. I honestly don't understand this reaction. After just finishing I'm not sure if I'll continue the series.

The resolution of day 10 left me angry

Title says it all. All the human weakness and mystical powers you've come to love about the cosmere, now with 40% more intersectionality and inclusiveness. Whether you like that or not, the way it is implemented feels very shoehorned into the story and at times, preachy.

Epic Storytelling with Hamfisted Wokeness

This book has great *moments* but it is not a great book. I spent most of my time with this “epic” conclusion bored to tears. Not sure if I care to continue reading the series after this. Brandon has claimed enough of my time.

A long walk for a short drink of lukewarm water

The ending left much to be desired, especially if it’ll be 10 years to book 6. The story for many characters is not what I’d considered satisfactory for the ending of a first arch

Day one felt a little jumbled with pacing. The meat really doesn’t take place till day 7 where it never takes its foot off the gas. The storylines you actually want to read are great as expected however, I don’t understand Shallan’s importance. In a series with so many wonderful and selfless characters she is just such a selfish and self serving character posed as a protagonist. Some major character arcs felt forced as I don’t feel the past books have built up the relationship.

Ultimately however there seems to be in modern culture an emphasis on sensual love being the strongest form of love although I disagree. Bring back the friendships like Frodo and Sam who love each other in a brotherly way rather than physical.

Kate and Michael have been voices for my whole childhood.

All in all. The series is masterclass. I choose to read the last day out of the book and I believe that to be a wise decision. Resolution to a decade of love for these characters. Thank you Sanderson.

Dalinar, Kaladin, and Adolin are just spectacular

The overall choices for where the story is going and world building is excellent. But… I felt like I was reading a set of writing devices, instead of those devices being encased with rich writing where I don’t even notice it. So many amazing ideas that just felt… poorly executed. I am excited to see where the Cosmere goes with these developments. I enjoyed the book. But it felt clunky and didn’t engage me like the prior four books.

Good, but not Sanderson quality

First off, overall I liked it. We got some excellent plot development and some excellent character work, as is usual for Sanderson. Kramer and Reading were perfect as always.

I did notice that a lot of prose was...casual? Word usage that was VERY reminiscent to our world. Phrases like "doing their thing" and colloquialisms that didn't fit in the world were quite prominent throughout the story. I feel that the editor should have picked up on these and had Brando change them. Not a huge problem, but definitely one that took me out of the world a bit.

Very good but needed better editing
