Publisher's summary

Explore the captivating life of William Wallace!

You might recognize him from Mel Gibson's film Braveheart.

Sir William Wallace (c. 1270–1305) was - and is - a Scottish national icon of the highest order. Born as the landless younger son of a minor nobleman (Sir Malcolm Wallace), his startling rise to become a military and historical legend, an exemplary patriot, and a national hero is an embodiment of the underdog narrative that many people identify with in film and real life.

Wallace earned a place in history for his successful efforts in leading the Scottish resistance forces who had been rallying against English rule since Scotland was conquered in 1296.

Some of the topics covered in this book include:

  • Mysterious origins
  • Coming of age in crisis
  • Defiance and compliance
  • The prophecy
  • Uprising
  • Love in a time of war
  • The Battle of Stirling Bridge
  • Invading England
  • The guardian of Scotland

Easy to follow and enjoyable.

Gives me a better understanding of William Wallace.. Good historical authors usually know how to convey factual information into good story telling.

Pretty impressive.

Not really familiar with this Scottish knight, but I got curious so here I am. There are a lot of things I found out about him like he is one of the leaders in the First War of Scottish Independence. How he defeated an army that took place in Stirling Bridge and how he became a hero.

Everything The Title Says It Is

I love the movie Brave Heart and have always wanted to learn more about the man that inspired it. I figured this relatively short audiobook would be a good place to start. I am not disappointed. I loved every minute of it, except the intro, which I found to not only be a spoiler, but kind of unnecessary for a short audiobook, as well as the fact that it is more of a summary fitting for the conclusion. If you're the least bit curious, just pick it up. For the price, you can't go wrong. Just do it. You'll be glad you did.

MacFarland

Very interesting to see where the movie and Blind Willie's account differ. The history is stronger, of course, as it contains all the true events which led to the eventual crown of the true king of Scotland.

Finish it in one sitting.

I was able to follow through the footsteps of William Wallace with this complete piece. It turns out there are so many things I have yet to discover. And because of this almost brilliant work, I finish listening to this in one sitting.
