In this second book in the Will Fain, US Marshal series, Will finds a hidden Spanish treasure on his property. He and Isum Wood, his chief deputy, search out murderers and rapists in wild Texas frontier towns like San Saba, Lampasas, Gatesville, and Comanche. They kill two murdering gamblers in Buffalo Gap, go on to the wildest of western towns, Fort Griffin, where Will's great thoroughbred stallion, Traveler, wins a stakes race, and then Will and Isum fight off a gang which wants to steal the race money.

It's a great story of adventure on the west Texas frontier, but also a heartfelt relationship with wife Virginia, and two children, Jacob and Annabelle, that warms Will's heart and keeps him grounded. When a crew of buffalo hunters strike Will's ranch, he and Isum use the Gatling gun to fight them off and restore peace to the ranch.

I love westerns, especially fast paced action with righteous retribution. Excellent narrator. The characters are memorable, and the details about weapons of the period just had to the the overall romance of the 19th century cowboy.

Fast paced western action.

I'm an 80-year-old woman who loves to read westerns. But it's hard to find them without language or content I don't want to read. And A.T Chandler is one of my favorite western readers. I really enjoyed this series. Keep writing more Mr Lane.

Really enjoyed this book of the old West I was born in Texas and this was a handsome prince that came along and it’s like a fairytale, but I love the narrators voice. It’s perfect.

The Voice of the narrator was awesome

This is an Excellent Book and Series. Will Fain is an United States Marshall. This is the second book in this series. You need to listen to them in order for it to make more sense. Will has a colored Deputy. I like how he treats him and there friendship. When they go in a town Will makes sure Isums is treated with respect. No one treats him any different or they will be dealt with is a very harsh way. Will and Isum hunts down some outlaws than some people steals some of his cattle. They go after them and catch them with several different brands of cattle. A.T. Chandler does a great job narrating this book.
