Story
In 2015, Mary Yoder returned home from the chiropractic center that she operated with her husband, Bill, complaining that she felt unwell. Mary, health-conscious and vibrant, was suddenly vomiting, sweating, and weak. Doctors in the ER and ICU were baffled as to the cause of her rapidly progressing illness. Her loved ones - including Bill and their children, Adam, Tamryn, and Liana - gathered in shock to say good-bye. In the weeks that followed Mary's death, the grief-stricken family received startling news from the medical examiner: Mary had been deliberately poisoned with colchicine.

During it, she told Sandy to drop the restraining order and get back together with Ken. Pen was never seen again. One man stood to gain from Pen’s disappearance: Ken Carpenter. But evidence was bleak: no blood, no DNA, no body. Until detectives found notes hidden....

Don Miller was quiet and reserved. As a former youth pastor, he seemed a devout Christian. No one would have ever suspected that the recent graduate of the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice was a serial killer. However, when Miller was arrested for the attempted murder of two teenagers in 1978, police quickly realized he was probably responsible for the disappearances of four women. Offered a still-controversial plea bargain, he led police to the bodies of the missing women. Now, after 40 years in prison, Miller has served his time.

On a chilly November afternoon in 1998, a tearful 36-year-old man walked into the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department in Eureka, California, and confessed to something horrible. "I hurt some people," he said. Inside his pocket was the ghastly proof of his statement. But there was more to Wayne Adam Ford than the trail of mangled victims he left behind. More, even, than the twisted predator inside, which drove him to increasingly perverse sexual appetites.

In 1985, Charles Ng and Leonard Lake were spotted shoplifting. Ng escaped, but Lake's capture led police to a concrete bunker in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where they discovered the grisly evidence of an orgy of sex crimes, torture, and murder that claimed at least 16 victims. Lake committed suicide: Ng fled to Canada, where he was tracked down and extradited to California. This is the fascinating true story of a brutal murderer and the detectives who worked the cold case for six years in order to bring him to justice. Combining cutting-edge forensic techniques with old-fashioned detective work, a team of detectives worked to build a case against their prime suspect. But it was a race against time: would he strike again? No one could predict that the killer's appearance on the gameshow Bullseye would provide bizarre but crucial evidence. The operation is now recognised as one of the greatest cold-case reviews ever undertaken in the UK.

Publisher's Summary
Angila was stabbed 44 times.
This was personal.
On a November morning in 2015, Christopher Jackson waited for his fiancée, Angila Wilder, to pick him up from work as she always did. But this time, she didn’t show - and Christopher’s calls went unanswered. The police found what looked like a scene from a horror movie at their home. The backdoor kicked in. A bedroom splattered with blood. And a pregnant young woman violently stabbed to death.
Could Christopher have murdered the woman he claimed to love? Or was the crime done by an intruder Angila had feared for weeks? Angila’s womanizing ex-husband, Richie Wilder, Jr., aimed detectives straight toward Christopher. The evidence, however, pointed squarely at Richie.
Kindergarten teacher Cynthia Wilder thought her dreams had come true when she married Richie. But while her husband sat behind bars, Cynthia grew lonely. When she shared some disturbing details with a former lover, Cynthia finally revealed the truth behind the sinister plot to kill Angila Wilder. After four years of lies and deceit, the real story would shock a community to its very core....

Incredibly shocking and intriguing story
I just wanted to touch on the point of the narrator since others seemed to make it as if she ruined the story. It is not nearly as bad as others have made it out to be and the story is definitely worth the read! It’s very well written, intriguing, and keeps you pulled in wanting to know more throughout the book.
No, she was not the best narrator I’ve ever heard only due to the times she would try to use her “manly” voices for characters at times which was annoying at first. However, just as with many other audible books, once you get used to the narrative style, it’s not really noticeable anymore and you are pulled into the storyline, rather than the narrative aspect.
Also, it was nice that it was used much more in the first couple chapters then in the remainder of the book. So once you get past the beginning it’s much easier. Had it not been for her voice overs or change of voice to betray male characters I do not believe there would’ve been any negative comments regarding her as she has an overall easy to follow, calming, & smooth voice.

Cmon Mr. Wynn, didn’t you get the memo....
It’s worth spending the extra money on a experienced and exceptional narrator, as it will make or break the nook, no matter how brilliantly written. This book was good but would have been great, but I was distracted with the subpar narration. Not horrible but distracting.

Pleasantly surprised
For a first release as an Author, C.J. Wynn did a very good job here. All the information is there, and it’s delivered clearly. There isn’t a lot of repetition, as you see with new authors; as they sometimes seem to struggle with wanting to make sure that the reader has a certain point or fact understood, and grasps how important that point or fact is to the storyline or history. I also walk away feeling that I was given an honest, unbiased, and educated telling. Yes, there will always be those, especially in the true crime genre, that will insist that the author’s account is jaded or unfairly one sided - but that is usually due to the person complaining either being a family member of, a close friend to, the perpetrator, or the perpetrator themselves. I don’t feel as if the author went into this with the intention of further vilifying the person or people responsible, nor do I feel as if I’ve been “over sold on the victim” - portraying them as having the moral and selfless aptitude of Mother Theresa. Instead, I know the facts of the case, I have a true sense of “who” each of the people are, and can identify with the victim as a great person - with a human side. Angila Wilder was a good mother, a great daughter/sister/friend, generous, and had a desire to direct her life and career towards helping others via a nursing degree. She made mistakes, but certainly not anything intentionally nefarious, or that that 99.9% of the rest of us have done - and probably a few times throughout our lives. My heart aches for those she left behind, especially a beautiful little boy that won’t be able to celebrate life with. If you love honest, true crime that doesn’t inflame or over dramatize. I believe you’re going to enjoy this.

Good story but bad performance
The book was well researched and laid out well. However, the reading of the book was very choppy, pauses where not warranted, emphasis on meaningless phrases and words. It made me have to rephrase things mentally...distracting.

Exellent
Thank you C.J. Wynn, you have written a great true crime book with interesting twist and turns. Your personal approach and close contact to the persons concerned made it more rivveting. I can't wait for further books. Please keep on doing this. Also the author Katrine Medina was excellent, I hope she keeps on narrating books like this. Overall, I am glad that there is a future in non-fiction crime books in the era of DNA, because it needs more storytelling. Keep up the great work! Thank you
