Sebastian Rousseau is a grumpy, hot as hell fire pilot who is too damn good with his hands. It’s the perfect combination. But unfortunately for me, he’s also my ex-boyfriend’s dad.
A chance meeting brought us together and a missed connection has kept us apart.
One year later, a stroke of fate has us living under the same roof—which makes everything between us downright messy. Because even after all this time, he’s still the man I think about when I fall asleep. The one I can’t get over no matter how hard I try.
He’s working on mending a fragile relationship with his son and we both know acting on these urges would be the ultimate betrayal. But I see the heat in his eyes. That look of need that never fails to send a shiver down my spine.
The mutual longing is borderline unbearable and the simmering heat between us is downright palpable. We both know there are rules when it comes to situations like this. But then again…following the rules never has been my strong suit.

In this book, we have Bash, the grumpy fire fight pilot, and Gwen, the yoga instructor. She’s the perfect yin to his yang, and the tension and angst in this book were next level. The spice was mouthwatering!
There’s a meet cute, a missed connection that kept them apart, and fate that brings them back together. Plus, there’s a son he never knew he had, which adds to the messiness of the story. I’m here for it!
This book is a must-read!
My favorite book of the series now

I’d write a better review but I can’t see my screen too clearly from these tears.
How bout this: Thank you Elsie Silver - your writing is devastatingly beautiful.
Spoiler….(?)
It’s NOT Gwen-Stacy (but maybe I was the only one with that idea 🥴)
Soooo…I guess I have a “thing” for wildfire pilots now….🥴💁♀️

Sebastian meets Gwen by chance during a layover in an airport. They have a meet cute that leaves them both desperate for more. When they are finally able to meet again there’s just one problem… She’s dating his son.
I seriously did not know how this was going to play out. You so badly want to automatically dislike Bash’s son to maybe justify the situation of Bash and Gwen being together. But Tripp is just the product of his upbringing and you really feel for the guy.
The storyline was really well written. You feel for everyone on all sides: the passion between Bash and Gwen, the torment that Bash is going through with trying to have a relationship with his son, as well as the guilt of secretly dating his ex-girlfriend. But don’t worry… Clyde will save you with his laugh out loud comedic relief. I have loved this crazy character since the beginning of the Rose Hill series and I’m glad we got to take a deeper dive into his tanned you-know-what (IYKYK 🤣)
So sad for this series to end, but grateful it happened!!
Ps… Connor Crais might be my narration kryptonite.

I love how Bash actually SEES Gwen and loves her the way she needs. And the way Gwen helps Bash grow his relationship with his son was so special.
The real winner though-Clyde 🤭 love that goofy, grumpy old man.
The audiobook by Megan Wicks and Connor Crais is a MUST LISTEN 🎧

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ So far I've loved every book in this series. Ford & Rosie will always have heart. But man, this whole series is gold!
Ohmygoodness 😍

I adored everything about this book — its message, its theme, and the way it resonated with me personally. I often get tired of the endless “young love” romance tropes, so Wild Card felt refreshing. Instead of the same old setup, we get a forty-year-old, career-driven, jaded on life single dad paired with a curvy FMC who knows her worth, owns her body, and is unapologetically herself.
Gwen isn’t the cookie-cutter FMC we see in so many romances — she’s strong, self-aware, and wonderfully real. Bash is mature, sexy, and grounded, and together their dynamic feels equal and authentic. Their airport meet-cute had me laughing out loud (“Can we order lime margaritas, make his extra sour” 🤣), and from that moment on, I was hooked.
The narration deserves its own shoutout. Megan Wicks for Gwen nailed it — strong yet expressive — while Connor Crais as Bash’s voice exuded maturity and charisma (especially how he growls um what?! 🔥), making the story come alive.
Most importantly, this book tackles weight stigma with grace and honesty. It reminds us that people don’t need to fit a certain size to be worthy of love, success, or happiness. Wild Card is a celebration of self-acceptance and the power of embracing exactly who you are without apology.
Narration spot on!

SPICE: 🌶️🌶️
End of a freaking era.
This whole series was so good but I have to say something o didn’t think I was going to say… move over Weston Belmont because SEBASTIAN ROUSSEAU is my new number one! 💕💕 I am not usually one for age gaps, but I would gladly call this man daddy if he asked.
I also just love a good underdog and Bash made me root for him from the moment we met his grumpy self in an airport.
Also did I mention I love a good grump. Because I do, the grumpier the better, and this man was the best.
✨ Ex Boyfriend’s Dad
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ Slow Burn
✨ Found Family
✨ Grumpy x Sunshine
✨ Right Person wrong Time
Gwen and Bash were everything. I wanted but man these two put me through it. With their missed connection, forced proximity and star-crossed right person wrong time vibes, I could not put this down.
Ans let me TELL YOU… I listened to this one and I was an actual puddle on the ground. The audio was top tier, and honestly I could not imagine only eyeball reading this one.
The audio altered my brain chemistry. The Connor Crais growl should absolutely be trademarked, or celebrated or something. It’s perfection. And the angst and emotion that he and Megan Wicks brought to this one. TOP TiER. TOP TIER!
I have to mention also that Clyde stole the show, he stole this book, he stole my heart and I lived him almost as much as Bash. This was the perfect ending to the series and I enjoyed every second of it.
So freaking good
