New York Times bestselling author Richard Chizmar, “one of horror’s indispensable writers” (Paste), and his son W.H. Chizmar, critically acclaimed author of Them (hailed by New York Times bestselling author Josh Malerman as “one of the best debuts I’ve ever read”) present a riveting found footage narrative about doomed thrill-seekers trapped in a haunted lighthouse.

“This is a bad place. I don’t think people are meant to live here.”

Longtime residents of Harper’s Cove believe that something is wrong with the Widow’s Point Lighthouse. Some say it’s cursed. Others claim it’s haunted.

Originally built in 1838, three workers were killed during the lighthouse’s construction, including one who mysteriously plunged to his death from the catwalk. That tragic accident was never explained, and it was just the beginning of the terror. In the decades that followed, nearly two dozen additional deaths occurred in or around the lighthouse including cold-blooded murder, suicide, unexplained accidents and disappearances, the slaughter of an entire family, and the inexplicable death of a Hollywood starlet who was filming a movie on the grounds.

The lighthouse was finally shuttered tight in 1988 and a security fence was erected around the property. No one has been inside since.

Until now.

Told across two harrowing incidents from 2017 and today, those who enter the Widow’s Point Lighthouse, searching for material for the next big thing, will find themselves cut off from the outside world. And although no one has recently stepped foot inside the structure, they will not be alone.

In this remarkable collaboration, father and son writing team, Richard and W.H. Chizmar combine forces to tell a terrifying ghost story that will make you think twice about what is waiting for you in the dark.

I did not like the constant reading of numbers such as 000 000 000 000

It was a good story but hard to follow the characters. It would have been good to know the back story of the characters

The plot and characters completely fell apart during the last quarter of the story. The characters abruptly changed their behavior and then returned to old behaviors without the other characters reacting. Highly unrealistic for character behavior.

I found myself rolling my eyes at some of standard cliches too. it's as if the author's decided they were tired if writing and then started coming up with every horror trope they could think of in the last quarter of the book.

The narrator's breathy, overwrought style is better for a Gose Bumps tween story. completely distracted from the story as was totally over the top.

Disappointing Story and Naration

Widow‘s Point was my introduction to Richard & WH Chizmar’s storytelling, and what an excellent introduction it was.

The way this story was delivered through found footage excerpts was not only interesting, it created a depth to the story that wouldn’t have existed had it been straight prose. This method also helped build insight into each of the characters.

It’s been quite a while since I read a full-length horror novel, and when I finished Widow’s Point, I started looking at the unread horror books on my shelves to pick my next read. Wouldn’t you know I chose another Chizmar book to make sure this wasn’t a one-off experience.

If you enjoy a good ghost story or horror story, you might give Widow’s Point a shot. If you enjoy audiobooks, Mia Barron and Tristan Morris do fantastic work bringing each character to life and delivering the narration in a way that keeps you fully engaged in the story.

Absolute entertainment.
