Have you ever left a conversation asking yourself, Am I boring or dull? Or did I say something offensive? Did I talk too much? You’re not alone.

For forty years, Peter Parnegg thought he’d perfected the art of selling. A successful CEO and international speaker, he knew firsthand the requirements of a high-functioning sales organization. But after countless interactions with clients, agents, and managers, he realized the industry’s prevailing wisdom was fundamentally flawed. The answer? Don’t sell. Ask questions. Good questions.

In this illuminating book steeped in the conceptual and the practical, Parnegg weaves a narrative through his personal and professional ventures to demonstrate that conversational skills are vital to success in all domains—be that in the C-suite or the marriage suite. The principles Parnegg advances draw not only on business acumen but also on social psychology, psychoanalysis, and spiritual study.

Whether you’re a CEO or a stay-at-home parent, an entrepreneur or an everyday confidante, Why Bother Asking? provides a blueprint for deeper, clearer and more intimate connections, and gives you instantly applicable tools—both simple and profound—to become a truly masterful communicator.

Love the content, the stories and the absolute relatability of this book. Peter brings his most authentic self, and rather courageously shares some of the hard lessons he has learned. I enjoyed how the stories were very real-life, and I quickly felt I was a close participant rather than detached bystander. Truthfully I have already noticed how I ‘listen’ a bit differently in conversations now, and seek opportunities to ask ‘tell me more’ about this or that. Why bother asking? Because that is where the magic, and connection lie! It now seems so simple, but also often overlooked. Thank you Peter Parnegg for putting your thoughts and experiences into this format for us to learn from and share!

Solid, sincere, sensational!

really good reminders for how to keep conversations alive and connect with people on a deeper level instead of just the standard "How are you? I'm fine." conversations that lead nowhere.
