RJ Palacio tells the story of a girl in hiding during the holocaust in a manner that’s appropriate for all ages. Children too young to understand THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. WHITE BIRD is part of the WONDER series; the tale of Julian’s grandmother, a French Jew hidden from Nazis by a classmate and his family.

First told in graphic novel form WHITE BIRD goes deeper as a novel and was inspired by an upcoming movie, which I cannot wait to see.

WHITE BIRD should be part of every classroom, read and discussed as any chapter book. Adults even without children will also find the story endearing and bittersweet.

One of my favorite books ever

This book was easy to listen to and a great read. I love the narration and this book is done so well. I will definitely read this story again.

Child’s point of view

A story of the effects of the holocaust from the POV of a child. Emotional and heart wrenching.

A realistic historically accurate fiction

I just really enjoyed the whole story and the telling of it from start to finish.

Stellar Story

Great story and characters. You don’t have to read the novels “Wonder” or “Auggie and Me” to enjoy this. That said, you’ll get more context about the grandson’s backstory if you do. I appreciate the notes at the ending of the author’s historical inspirations for this book
