He has endured more than any child ever should, but now he must survive Block 66.

January, 1945. Fourteen-year-old Moshe Kessler steps off the train at Buchenwald concentration camp with several hundred other children. Having endured the horrors of Auschwitz-Birkenau, lost touch with his entire family, and survived the death march in the freezing European winter, Moshe has seen more than his share of tragedy.

At Buchenwald, the new arrivals are assigned to their barracks. Kinder Block 66 is to be Moshe’s new home, but he doesn’t yet realize just how significant this placing will turn out to be. For just a short time later, the Germans decide to destroy the camp and send its remaining inmates to the death march once more—but they are not prepared for Buchenwald’s secret resistance, which rises up with one mission: to protect the camp’s children from harm.

This is the incredible true story of Moshe Kessler and Block 66—the children’s block that was at the forefront of one of the most shocking and inspiring stories of Holocaust survival.

I disliked the narrator’s voice.
The author generalized/stereotyped the Gentiles living in his village. He considered all of them lazy, worthless, etc.

The story was told from the author’s personal experience.

A sad and disturbing story of a teen survivor of the Holocaust. The narrative was concise and the reader add the right amount of empathy and sympathy to the story.

Very good!

Too hard to pick out one thing
Very revealing. I can’t understand how someone can say it didn’t happen.

I am 65 yrs old. My mother is Jewish. This book helped me to better understand why the state of Israel is so important to the Jewish people. Never again will they be physically removed from their homes because of their religion.

Better Understanding

The author took us back through his life and the narrator conveyed the emotions excellently of the author. Glad I got this book as it was also on my Amazon wish list for the actual book, this was way better.

Review from a child’s perspective.

It is quite amazing how much he is able to recall about his horrible tragic experience as a holocaust survivor. I believe it is important to read these stories and hear them in first person as many survivors are in their 90s and soon this is all we will have left!

Amazing Book

The cadence, inflection, and peppiness in the narrator's voice is insufferable. He reads this book as if it's a reading at his very first acting audition rather than the viewpoint of a Jewish man who survived Hell. Absolutely no somberness in his voice. Just chugging along like a brand new actor blurting out a generic script. I like to listen to the audio version of my book while driving, but the narrator is ruining the story for me, so I won't be listening to the book any further. I will, however finish reading the book.

Zero Stars for Narration

This was so well done. Horrific but not gruesome so reader can really understand what happened and hopefully learn from this

Sad but necessary read!
