Story
In November 2014, 13 members of the Biden family gathered on Nantucket for Thanksgiving, a tradition they had been celebrating for the past 40 years; it was the one constant in what had become a hectic, scrutinized, and overscheduled life. The Thanksgiving holiday was a much-needed respite, a time to connect, a time to reflect on what the year had brought, and what the future might hold. But this year felt different from all those that had come before.

In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy".

The extraordinary partnership of Barack Obama and Joe Biden is unique in American history. The two men, their characters and styles sharply contrasting, formed a dynamic working relationship that evolved into a profound friendship. Their affinity was not predestined. Obama and Biden began wary of each other: Obama an impatient freshman disdainful of the Senate's plodding ways; Biden a veteran of the chamber and proud of its traditions.

Publisher's Summary
An intimate look at the love that built the Biden family and the delicate balancing act of the woman at its center
"How did you get this number?" Those were the first words Jill Biden spoke to US senator Joe Biden when he called her out of the blue to ask her on a date.
Growing up, Jill had wanted two things: a marriage like her parents' - strong, loving, and full of laughter - and a career. An early heartbreak had left her uncertain about love until she met Joe. But as they grew closer, Jill faced difficult questions: How would politics shape her family and professional life? And was she ready to become a mother to Joe's two young sons?
She soon found herself falling in love with her three "boys", learning to balance life as a mother, wife, educator, and political spouse. Through the challenges of public scrutiny, complicated family dynamics, and personal losses, she grew alongside her family, and she extended the family circle at every turn: with her students, military families, friends and staff at the White House, and more.
This is the story of how Jill built a family - and a life - of her own. From the pranks she played to keep everyone laughing to the traditions she formed that would carry them through tragedy, hers is the spirited journey of a woman embracing many roles.
Where the Light Enters is a candid, heartwarming glimpse into the creation of a beloved American family and the life of a woman at its center.

Heart Warming and Touching
I loved that Jill read this herself. Her voice gave it life and her emotions were genuine. She has such an inner strength that came through in each chapter. It is amazing how deeply she loved her boys. I loved the story of how she let the boys be in on her pregnancy before she told Joe. Her way of parenting can be held up as a model family with the heartache and pain, joy and happiness they have felt. I was touched how much she shared in this book.

JB Has More Substance than I Knew
I never thought much about Jill Biden one way or the other. Frankly, politics make me want to stab my eyes with my knitting needles but my love of biographies pulled me to this book and I'm so glad that it did. I love this book and after listening to it I feel like Jill is one of the neighbors, one of the family, one of the gals! She is fun and silly, serious and giving. Hearing her words in her own voice made it seem like she was telling a story to me, her friend. Never really figured that she was a regular mom. This book definitely is a 5 star in my library!

Sincere and Raw
Setting aside all cynicism of political memories and books as marketing tools to cement branding, this is excellent. I felt it was quite raw and not overly manicured. It felt very real esp her reading was so good. And she like Biden have endured unbearable loss and terrible grief. They have been tested in their personal lives deeply. And it comes through in this book - not in a self pitying way. But in a courageous way. No bitterness esp when her she talks about her mom's stomach cancer - which was a misdiagnosis. While her mom was dying she was on the road campaigning for her husband. Heart wrenching.
