“I come from a family forged by tragedies and bound by a remarkable, unbreakable love,” Hunter Biden writes in this deeply moving and “unflinchingly honest” (Entertainment Weekly) memoir of addiction, loss, and survival.

When he was two years old, Hunter Biden was badly injured in a car accident that killed his mother and baby sister. In 2015, he suffered the devastating loss of his beloved big brother, Beau, who died of brain cancer at the age of forty-six. These hardships were compounded by the collapse of his marriage and a years-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction.

In Beautiful Things—“an astonishingly candid and brave book about loss, human frailty, wayward souls, and hard-fought redemption” (Dave Eggers, New York Times bestselling author)—Hunter recounts his descent into substance abuse and his tortuous path to sobriety. The story ends with where Hunter is today—a sober married man with a new baby, finally able to appreciate the beautiful things in life.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"No one could narrate this punch-in-the-gut memoir more powerfully than its author, Hunter Biden, President Biden's younger son. It is his story: raw, unvarnished; filled with despair, anger, and redemption. An alcoholic who first drank at the age of 14, he later added crack cocaine to his pharmacopoeia. In his view at the time, he was functioning just fine—until his brother, Beau, died. After that, his addiction increased dramatically, his entire life narrowing to the search for his next hit. Biden's phrasing and rhythm increase the intensity of his story. His staccato intonation suggests that if he doesn't say it quickly, he might not say it all. The roller coaster ride will leave listeners breathless."

The amount of love in that family is amazing. As someone in recovery some of this was so hard to hear, but I'm glad I continued. It's astounding Hunter is still around, there must be a greater purpose for him, and this book is a start. I hope it reaches people who need to hear it. I wish Hunter all the best. He deserves it, and given the beautiful letter to Beau in the epilogue, it seems he may finally believe it himself.

Beautiful, Raw, Heart-wrenching

I truly, one hundred percent, understand what you have gone thru, the strogles, the set backs, the pain, the hope of being save, the silence cries for help, all has a purpose in life, and yours as just began. I cried listening to most of this audio book, I travel back in time 30 years. I'm happy to see where you are now Hunter, I'm happy you found your rock "Melissa".

Hunter Biden not only gets into the story of his addiction, he also captures the heartbreak he’s been through in such a way you are able to feel his pain. I was taken to tears a few times during the telling of his story. He is able to describe the struggle and give you an understanding of the pain and turmoil addiction is, and the fight and desire so many have to see their way out. And an added bonus, Hunter describes his involvement with the Ukrainian power company, and the profound love of his father, President Joe Biden and his entire family unit of support. He highlights his impressive resume, so no more questions as to what he is qualified to do?! He is quite qualified! I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling to understand the addiction of a loved one. Thank you Hunter for the courage to share your story.

Captivating and Heartwarming!

I'm not sure if I was expecting more or was just a little disappointed that it didn't go through as much of the relationship with Joe Biden and his political agenda, as far as Hunter was being used by Trump.

Good story! I was very impressed by the honesty of
