Publisher's summary

Book number two of the award winning Brooke & Abby cozy mystery series, where clues from the past help solve modern murder cases.

Why does Abby tarot card her way back to Ancient Rome when there’s no need to? After all, the recent death in town has been declared by the local pathologist to be simply an accidental, epileptic tragedy and nothing more. Or is it?

Follow the Gang of Five, as Abby time-travels to the Age of Emperors, Brooke learns to follow her heart, Henry studies old antiquities, detectives Tony and Larry continue their police work, and Brooke’s niece, Haley, joins their ranks - just in time to learn a most valuable lesson: Things aren’t always what they seem...

A well-written, entertaining read from

When In Rome (Brooke & Abby #2), my sixth read from author S.R. Mallery, each very different than the others (Sewing Can Be Dangerous, Other Small Threads, Tea, Anyone (A Brooke & Abby Cozy Mystery Book 1), The Map Room: A Short Story and The Dolan Girls books until this 2 book series. All have one thing in common, no matter the genre you can count on a well-written, entertaining read. Narrator Ellen Quay's narration contributed to the enjoyment of the book & made the re-read very worthwhile. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Fun cozy mystery with time travel

The story has so many elements. It's a cozy mystery, it's time travel, it's a bit of fascinating history, and it's just fun story telling. The lead actor in a college play dies suddenly after leaving stage. It is thought that he died from his epilepsy, but things don't quite add up. There are plenty of potential suspects. And Brooke's team is on it, along with her long time friend and his partner, who are both detectives.

This book to me a short while to figure out who everyone is. But if you haven't read the first book in the series, never fear, you will get it sorted out in no time.

I can recommend this book to almost any reader.

I was provided an Advance Reader Copy by the author. This is my honest review. In addition to reading the book, I listened to the Audible version. The narrator had a great voice for this book and did a fine job.

Mystery & Time Travel

S. R. Mallery has written a creative story that blended together the elements of mystery, time travel, and romance. I enjoyed the story a lot. The characters were quirky, fun, and charismatic. The plot was convoluted with some surprising twists and a touch of humor. The mystery kept me guessing until the end of the tale. I recommend this book to others who enjoy this genre. Ellen Quay's narration was awesome and added entertainment to the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.
