Publisher's summary

What happens when the love of your life refuses to love you back?

Jesse McCallister. Motocross legend. Reckless heartbreaker. And the love of my life. Too bad he only thought of me as his best friend’s little sister. Naïve and innocent. Only 18. Completely off-limits.

Unrequited love...was there anything more painful? Turns out there was - when he kisses you but has no memory of it. When he tells you his heart was broken and he doesn't believe in love. When he doesn’t want you kissing anyone else, but you're stuck in the friend zone.

Despite the odds stacked against us, my foolish heart refused to stop loving him. Now I’m falling under his spell. Drowning in his perfect lies. Addicted to his stolen glances and forbidden kisses.

I’m on a collision course with disaster and only one thing is certain...Jesse McCallister is going to ruin me.

Quinn and Jesse

Age Gap is my least favorite trope but I liked this book. I read it first and just now got around to listening to it. I loved the narration. The narrators did a spectacular job. I never want the McAlister Family’s story to end.

You have to listen!

This book grabbed my attention from the first chapter and never let go. That isn’t easy to do. There are lots of books that drag through the first few chapters while setting up the story and they bore me, but this did not do that. This book melted my heart, not to mention it was 🔥! Click that button and use a credit, because it’s worth it.

Ever since Quinn was a little girl, she has always believed Jesse was her one true love. Unfortunately, the sentiment was never returned. Until years later, when Jesse is back and she’s determined to have one unforgettable summer with him before, she heads off to college.

Jesse is a motocross racer who has had his heart broken and career derailed. He’s decided to “retire” from the sport and head back home to Texas for the summer. What he never could have expected is Quinn being the healing balm for his broken heart.

Their story is full of emotions, angst, longing stares, secret kisses, and delicious tension that had me devouring the pages. Emery perfectly captured the beauty, pain, anguish, drama, resistance, and unrequited love when it came to Quinn and Jesse. It may have taken a bumpy road to get us to their HEA, but she did it wonderfully.

This book was narrated in dual by Charlotte North and J.F. Harding. I have loved listening to Charlotte and J.F. before, so I knew I was going to thoroughly enjoy their performance, and I absolutely did! Charlotte portrayed Quinn’s naivety and youth immaculately but also her strength, bravery, and honesty, too. She brought Quinn’s growth and confidence to the forefront that you couldn’t help falling in love with her. J.F. depicted Jesse’s rough edges and wounded soul perfectly. His anger, fears, and moody exterior were his ways of protecting himself but once we got to pull the layers back piece by piece, we got to see that Jesse is also a hardworking, thoughtful, and generous man that’s worthy of unconditional love. Together, Charlotte and J.F. brought the heat, tension, and chemistry of these characters for an all-around wonderful listening experience.

DNF 😕

I’m giving up. The story had potential, but it fell short for me. I just didn’t feel the connection and I wasn’t a huge fan of the female main character. I’m still considering buying Ridge’s story, but we’ll see.
