Teacher, carpenter, and his small town’s favorite son, Kyle Nixon has a pretty sweet life. But he’s never forgiven himself for breaking Laney Calhoun's heart a decade earlier when she was accepted into medical school. So when she returns to Wardham for Christmas, he goes over to Evening Lane Farm to see her. Just to say hi, maybe. And maybe to deal with some of their complicated history.
Laney loves everything about her new life in Chicago. Everything except for the weird feeling she gets when she thinks about her high school sweetheart. So when Kyle turns up on her mother’s doorstep, she does her best to ignore the way he makes her feel. But he’s just down the road, and they keep bumping into each other. Then there’s the small matter that he still takes her breath away, still makes her laugh, and still sees all of her secret desires. And he seems intent on proving to her that he’s a different kind of man now.
But is a week of holidays enough time to for a second chance at love?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would highly recommend this audiobook, and of course the book itself!!! I love hearing my favourite story and characters come to life. Listening the narration reminded me of parts of the story that I had forgotten and I smiled so many times, loved having Layne and Kyle in my ear and "my head".Who was your favorite character and why?
Layne, Evie, the children, so many characters became so vivid !Which character – as performed by Rebecca Roberts – was your favorite?
Layne, she sounded the way I thought Layne would when I read the bookWas there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I read this book over 2 years ago so I had forgotten some of it but the narration and descriptions came across so vividly, including the scene when Layne first comes home and sees the farm and when she talks about the name of the farm versus her and her sister's name....that really moved me.Any additional comments?
I would encourage people to buy this audiobook as well as all the books in the series.A perfect reflection of a favourite story

What Once Was Perfect is an excellent story. It's short but is filled with so much that you literally feel like your heart was stomped on. Zoe York is an excellent writer. I loved the characters and the story.
I think Rebecca Roberts was the perfect person to narrate this story. Her voice just captivated me and made me want to continue listening. I thought she did an excellent job of capturing the tones that needed to be used and when.
Wonderful Story told by a Great Narrator

I'm a huge fan of Ainsley Booth, and when I discovered she also wrote books as Zoe York, I wanted to read all of her other books.
What Once Was Perfect was about a second chance for Kyle and Lanie.
I must say that the narrator was a bit flat for my liking. I had to rewind the beginning a few times to get into the story.
The story itself was about Lanie struggling to love someone after she and Kyle broke up so many years before. Lanie and Kyle bump into each other while Lanie is in town and they reconnect.
I must say I had a hard time connecting to the characters. There is this scene when Lanie and Kyle have a talk about their break up, and Lanie is crying about it....and then they're kissing. It happened so fast, I missed the transition!
Bottom line: the audio is not my favorite and the story was entertaining but predictable.

Zoe does such a good job of describing the feelings each character has as they see each other the first time, and for each "date". I love how both are blown away at just seeing each other.Loved It!!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The time was well spent because I enjoyed revisiting Kyle and Laney's story, and it helped me to realize my imagination serves to evoke more emotion while reading, than the audio did. Zoe York's characters have a lot of personality. I didn't get that via the audio book. What was one of the most memorable moments of What Once Was Perfect?
For the audio, one of the most memorable moments was when Kyle and Laney had their first conversation after she returned to Wardham. It was memorable because Laney was supposed to be angry, containing her rage at Kyle, and I just didn't feel it.Did Rebecca Roberts do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I preferred the book. I guess you could tell they were different characters, but the Laney voice was kind of high and irritating. I felt it made Laney sound a little flighty, instead of like an accomplished physician. I didn't hear any righteous indignation in Laney's voice. What would have made this romance irresistible?
It would be interesting to hear a male read the part of the male characters. Maybe that would feel a tad more emotional. I have to say that I am sorry, as I haven't listened to many audio books, but I kind of expected some emotion. The audio didn't create a sense of hurt, love, lust, etc. between Laney and Kyle. No chemistry at all. I felt there was more emotion expressed between characters that interacted with Kyle and Laney separately, than I did with them together.Any additional comments?
I received this audio book in exchange for an honest review.Liked the story, audio...so, so
