Publisher's Summary

'We all have to do our part if we’re to survive the coming storm.'

Alexandra Jennings might be the hero of The Medoran Chronicles, but she would be lost without her three closest friends. They are her heroes, and like all heroes, they each have their own story.

Meet the real D.C. in 'Crowns and Curses' and discover how she becomes the princess Alex once despised but now adores.

Follow Jordan on his healing journey in 'Scars and Silence' as he struggles in the wake of being rescued from his living nightmare.

Walk beside Bear in 'Hearts and Headstones' as he faces an unspeakable trauma while helping his world prepare for the coming war.

D.C., Jordan and Bear are the heroes of their own stories.

It is time for their stories to be told.

It's nice

It is a nice distraction to see our other heroes perspectives, however, with the huge plot line hanging from the previous book, I was sorely tempted to just pass this over. I didn't, and I guess it's OK for the last 5 minutes catch up to the end of the previous book and into the next...

amazing as always!

I love this world! and it was great to hear some back story, in their own voices, of Alex's 3 best friends. The new voice actors did great but the pernounced a few key names wrong repeatedly and that always drives me a bit nuts! that's why I gave one less star on their performance rating.

Narrator didn't even learn the correct names

The first two narrator's we're great, they did a lovely job taking you into the minds of DC and Jordyn. However, the third narrator, who voiced Bear's story, clearly didn't even take the time to learn proper pronunciation of several characters names.

Voice Actor Review

As always, amazing story! But, instead of having the usual narrator, there were 3 (one for each person), which I have to admit was pretty cool and the first two were great. I generally don't like to leave negative comments, but the third narrator was not the best. He didn't pronounce any of the 'world' words the same as the narrators before him which was kind of disorienting. There were more than a couple of times he would say names and I had to pause the recording and think about who he was talking about. His voice acting skills were also kind of disruptive. He has a great voice with an amazing range for sure, but after listening to the main narrator and then the 2 narrators before him, his take on the characters' voices threw me off quite a bit. I will admit, I didn't quite envision Declan to have such a deep, almost morgan freeman sounding voice after the other narrators all consistently portrayed more of a young male adult voice. When he first started talking in his low masculine voice, it actually made me jump it was so unexpected! Again, very talented actor, just wish the author or someone in Audible listened to his recording and corrected a few things.

eh, okay I guess,

It was a three part recap where the three secondary characters all get a more more detailed look into their lives and the tragedies of their lives. The back story info of the three characters that have been there to help Alex all along is great but after how the third book ended I was expecting more. While it was great learning more backstory, the overall story recap from different characters was a tad bit unnecessary. Felt like more of a filler in all honesty.

not bad

it was good cleared up a lot of things that happened. only complaint I didn't like the gay stuff. granted it didn't go deep into it which was nice considering most stuff now days has to parade it but still didn't wanna hear it.

Great backstory but listen after the final book

Such great backstories about Alex’s friends. Bear’s voice actor had an amazing vocal range and really gave life to the male characters. However he struggled to follow the pronunciations of key names and places.

Great Series!!

I have one book left. I would love to see this book in the movies. Its a great Sci-fi magical series. I have been hooked since the first.
This book was a good fill in on the things that were not in the first three books. Ms Noni you have created a great series!

really good side addition to the main book

this is a good listen, it ties up some loose ends and gives some context to anyone reading the main books.

Feels Out Of Place

As a novella slotted into place in the series, these three short stories are actually good at tying up loose ends as we head into the final stages of the series. The big issue I have with it is the voices, they are just all wrong and don't match the characters at all. In my opinion it was a big mistake to use these narrators, it makes it hard to follow at times and there is no continuity with the actual series. The book itself is awesome and has plenty explanations for questions that were lingering about the trio's past.

Not sure about this one

I’m not sure about this one as I really didn’t like the change of narration, I don’t think it was needed when the one narrator was great for the last few books and then to switch to 3 different ones seemed pointless, I didn’t like how they changed the voices of the other characters either when each of them did their parts! It was a slightly pointless book too as it’s just rehashing the other books just shorter and from different points of view when I don’t think it’s really added anything extra to it really, other than perhaps to set up for a relationship between Bear and Declan? I hope the next book isn’t the same narrators!

Couldn't get into it

I loved the other books but just couldn't get into this one. I got about 5 chapters in and gave up. I'm not keen on the change of narrator either, maybe I'm just used to the other narrator from the other books. Maybe it's because its told from a different perspective, I don't know, but I'm just not enjoying this book at all.

Good book to read, poor voice choice

Great in between book, but the voice actors were so hard to continue listening to.

Looking forward to book 5, hopefully they use the same female as all previous full books.

AMAZING!

Wow. That book leaves you so emotionally exhausted by the end with all of the emotions it takes you through. I'm left a little speechless. All three characters are portrayed in their stories and add so much understanding to themselves as individual characters. It is definitely in the right location of order you need to read the series because this book does have parts that skip series of time and reference things that you should understand from the previous books. I'm glad I did decide to read this book rather than skip it to read the last one. I have read the whole series up to this point, however, this book was a little different and I decided to listen to it as an audiobook. It added a different perspective with the voices alone that depicted each character in a way I hadn't thought of before. I would highly suggest reading this book in the order it is placed. I hope you find you love this book just as much as I do! Enjoy!

Narration is awful

DC sounded like a pathetic airy princess, Jordan was so boring monotone dreary and Bear had an awful harsh voice and made the other characters cringe worthy.
The story was quite good but I really struggled to listen to this book and zoned out for a lot of it. Such a shame as the other books are fantastic

the voices are so different but a must read

the voices for each of the 3 storys where so wildly different from each other and the main novels I found it jarring and hard to follow who was speaking occasionally.
but overall an amazing companion book to the series that gives insights only hinted at previously. I love the retelling of the same events from a different characters perspectives.

Not Satisfied

I do like it as a perspective of the other characters however…

The narrators were very difficult to want to keep listening to when it comes to the accents that made no sense at all, you’d think they’d know the characters!

A perfect accompaniment to the main books!

I wish I’d read this before the final book. I was so enthralled in the main story that even though I suspected I should read this before the final one, I didn’t. Was great to experience the perspectives of these other characters of the story. Perfect novella. I was so impressed by the narrator of the other novels that I confess that I was somewhat disappointed by these three narrators, this is the reason I gave 4/5 stars for performance, they had big shoes to fill. I was disappointed that the words were pronounced differently...haven't yet come up with a good reason why the correct, or atleast a uniform, pronounciation would be communicated to all narrators involved. I'm very sensitive to auditory cues and can't listen to books if the narrator's voice makes me wince like nails on a chalkboard. This was no where near that bad, but it's such a great series of books that it was a bummer to have to tolerate the 'just not as good' narration.
