A decadent rock star. A deeply religious radio host. A disgraced scientist. And a teenage girl who may be the world’s last hope. From the mind of Chuck Wendig comes "a magnum opus...a story about survival that’s not just about you and me, but all of us, together" (Kirkus Reviews starred review).

Shana wakes up one morning to discover her little sister in the grip of a strange malady. She appears to be sleepwalking. She cannot talk and cannot be woken up. And she is heading with inexorable determination to a destination that only she knows. But Shana and her sister are not alone. Soon, they are joined by a flock of sleepwalkers from across America, on the same mysterious journey. And like Shana, there are other "shepherds" who follow the flock to protect their friends and family on the long dark road ahead.

For as the sleepwalking phenomenon awakens terror and violence in America, the real danger may not be the epidemic but the fear of it. With society collapsing all around them - and an ultraviolent militia threatening to exterminate them - the fate of the sleepwalkers depends on unraveling the mystery behind the epidemic. The terrifying secret will either tear the nation apart - or bring the survivors together to remake a shattered world.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Wanderers is amazing - huge, current, both broad and intensely personal, blending the contemplative apocalypse of Station Eleven with the compulsive readability of the best thrillers." (Django Wexler, author of the Shadow Campaigns series)

"Chuck Wendig’s latest, Wanderers, is a magnum opus of both storytelling and prose, epic in scope, yet told with an intimacy that hooked me from the first page. It reminded me of a technological version of Stephen King’s The Stand - but dare I say, this is even better: a postapocalyptic horror story that bares the best and worst of humanity in all its rawest forms. Don’t miss this tour de force. It left me awed." (James Rollins, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Crucible)

"With Wanderers, Chuck Wendig levels up - and when you consider the high level he was already writing at, that's saying something." (John Scalzi, New York Times best-selling author of The Consuming Fire)

Just when you start to relax and get into the story up comes a far left political diatribe. The author obviously lives in a bipolar world where everyone that doesn't agree with him is evil. I got about a third of the way through this overly wordy story before I hit the tenth "orange man bad" speech instantly pulling me out of the story.

To the author - separate your politics from your story telling or count out half of your potential audience. I will not be buying another of your books until I hear you got the message.

Decent story but way too much childish politics

Ok, so as others have said, there is a political story behind the sci-fi story - but in all honesty, isn't that somewhat the norm? Or if not the norm, then regular? I found the politics to be stereotyped... the preacher, the white supremacist, the rock god, the scientist... but again, in all honesty; how would one portray all the dynamics without some stereotypical behavior? And, to be quite honest, in today's political climate, I can see such a civil fracture in that one is "all in" or "all out" without much, if any, inclusion from either side.
As for the story itself, it kept me interested for the entire length of the book, and absolutely shell shocked at the ending - which could gateway to another book. (of course)
32 hours seems daunting, and in some places it did seem to drag on and on... but it wasn't anything superfluous, it was more background, more detail, more science that eventually did move the story along.
All in all, I recommend this book - with the caveat that it shows some of the worst of our currently divided political climate, along with some of the hope of civil inclusion.
As for narration - the different narrators, one female and one male - was terrific. Both were needed, I don't think one narrator could have done justice to the different characters portrayed.

Divisions and Inclusions...

This book blew me away. What started as an epidemic thought experiment transformed into an epic modern retelling of Stephen King's The Stand. The evil was deep and haunting. The good was uplifting and powerful. The twist.... will stick with me for days. I warn that it is graphic at times, but the writing and the performance was exceptional and I can't recommend it enough.

Whoa.

It may have taken half a minute before I got into the groove of the narration and premise but then I was hooked. It’s a roller-coaster ride with so many genres meshing together almost seamlessly. So much so that I wasn’t sure which genre would dominate, so the story could go anywhere. Pre-apocalyptic? Supernatural? Plague? Self-aware technology? A political/racial war? All of the above and more, but it works.

Loved the touches of humor and I came to root so hard for the protagonists, even when they started out so flawed. The evil is truly evil. Wry, horrifying, astute socio-political commentary that is in-this-moment-in-history relevant and it does not flinch from the expression of this.

Terrifying, engrossing, I didn’t want it to end

A slippery preacher along with a rock n roll hero and a over achieving computer makes for a great story

A good End Of Time story

I ate this novel up. A worthwhile read. I hope he revisits this universe in the future. I can't wait to see what happens next. Between this book and the Jane Hawk series, the possibilities of the future are both fascinating and frightening.

Chilling and Epic

overall, a good story

This is not a comforting story. It is a phenomenally harsh and beautiful written story that will suck you in, and leave you feeling a tad unsettled. This is like a harsh picture of our society, and the horror that we can and might create, carefully woven into a compelling plot that you have to follow all the way through. I listened to this a few weeks ago, and am still thinking about how beautifully done it is. This book is not an escape from reality, and part of it will *hurt* but is worth it, through and through.

Worth every minute
