Publisher's summary

The Ashleys are determined to build a future detached from the issues of their pasts, and it seems to be working: they’re happily married, in love, established in their dream careers, and closer than ever to being debt-free. But when a mysterious opportunity arrives with an offer they can’t refuse, everything changes.

Soon, they meet her: she’s rich, powerful, single-minded in her goals, and not used to being told no. Worst of all, she knows about the dirty deeds they’ve done in the dark…

If they don’t do exactly what she wants, the ramifications of their secrets being exposed are endless. In a battle of wits against a woman who knows too much, the Ashleys find themselves with an impossible choice to make. Whom do you trust when the only person who can save you is the one who might bring you down?

Wait for disappointment

This did not read like a Kiersten Modglin book. No unpredictable twists, no suspense, no psychological undertones, and a silly sophomoric ending. A quarter of the way through I messaged myself to trade it in but foolishly continued right on to the disappointing conclusion. And to think I waited for publication with the title in my wish list!

Good short story but surprised with author

I’m a HUGE FAN of this author and while this was a good short story, I feel like the author was running out of ideas and maybe just pressured to write another story. The narrator, Kim, is one of my favorites to listen to, from tone to pace she rocks it out of the park. If you want a short story, then give it a listen but don’t expect the mind blowing turns you are used to from this author

Starting to feel like a slap in the face…

If your a fan of Modglin’s writing and don’t mind the ever shrinking duration of each book, this one isn’t that bad. Personally, I didn’t enjoy or connect with the plot- husband & gynecologist by day, prostitute by night (no judgement- it’s just not my thing).

My irritation with her books has been building… I feel like Modglin is throwing these 5-6 hour books out like hot cakes at the highest price possible (thank goodness for credits) and is beginning to rely solely on shock factor and the normalization of anything non-traditional, instead of actually providing any type of character development or truly entertaining or engaging content. Don’t get me wrong- I like my books dark & somewhat twisted, but maybe her style just isn’t for me. The endings feel like they thrown together, everything is always a stretch, and there are so many missed opportunities for humor. I wish they could all be as good as The Arrangement.

So dumb

This was a waste of time. I kept waiting for a huge moment but it just felt rushed and silly. The relationships seemed cardboard and it was just a let down in general.
