Publisher's summary

A desperate princess, a magical traveler, and a watch that binds them together with the fate of a dying world.

Vi Solaris is the heir to an Empire she’s barely seen. Her parents sacrificed a life with her to quell a rebellion and secure peace with a political alliance. Now, three years past when her wardship should’ve ended, Vi will do anything to be reunited with her family.

The Empire is faltering beneath the burden of political infighting and a deadly plague. Yet, Vi can’t help but wonder if her inability to control her magic is the true reason her parents haven’t brought her home. Suspicion becomes reality when she unleashes powers she’s not supposed to have.

Powers that might well cost her the throne.

As Vi fights to get her magic under control, a mysterious stranger appears from across the world. He holds the keys to unlocking her full potential, but the knowledge has an unspeakable price - some truths, once seen, cannot be ignored.

All eyes are on her, and Vi must make the hardest choice of her life: Play by the rules and claim her throne. Or, break them and save the world.

If you enjoy epic fantasy stories with sorcery, slow-burn romance, and expansive worlds to adventure in, then you’ll love the Vortex Chronicles.

Great Story

It took me alittle bit to get in to this book, but I am glad I didn't give up. It is a good adventure..Once I figured it all out it was easier for me to follow..I recommend this book.

story line is great

unique tale, and some things actually surprised me which was great. I was, however, distracted by some of the male voices. Some sounded too mechanical or clipped almost robotic and there were no robots. lol. Very good read/listen.

Loved This!!!

Hearing Vi brought to life like this was breathtaking! I was utterly captivated by the beautiful narration. I love this series so much. Vi totally has my heart as does Taavan! This was loaded with surprises that left me stunned and I admit freely that I'm begging for more! Elise Kova is so brilliant and one of my faves!!

Vortex Visions

The crown Princess only wants to go home. She has been separated from her twin brother her whole life. The excuse is that its to keep peace. But its really about her powers. As she comes into them things really start to change and she finds out she must save the world. Sarah Sampino does a fantastic job on the narration.

Excellent book

This is the first book by this author that I have had the privilege to read/listen to and let me say I will be reading the Air Awakens series eventually. With plenty of magic and mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire book you can tell that the characters and world building meld perfectly together. I have grown to love this narrator as I totally enjoy how she handles the different characters in the books.

Wow

I enjoyed this book and the world building has left me with so many questions. It references things from the previous series set in the same world, but does so in a way that isn't confusing. I enjoyed how the main character starts out in a place that will give her a lot of growth through the series.
This book starts off a bit slow but quickly speeds up. The author has a really great way with words and drawing you into the book. The narrator was also very enjoyable!

After reading this I realize that it's not the first series set in this world. I will be going back to listen to the original series first and soak up the world building.

It's not as good as air Awakens imo, but it's probably a good set up for the next one.

I loved entering this world!!

This is a wonderful and imaginative story! There are so many things I enjoyed about listening to this book! The world they live has so many neat animals/customs and her environment has me wishing I lived there too. The characters are simply amazingly done! Every time a new one was introduced I couldn’t wait to get to know him/her. They all have attractive qualities that I loved learning about. Each one whether good or bad really garnered my interest. The story is just out of this world. We have a princess who has been raised in another place (for her own safety). Just as she is getting ready to be able to go home and join her family all heck breaks loose. She learns stuff about herself that she never knew before. The white plague is moving across the countries. Oh and let’s not forget someone is trying to kill her. And she keeps talking to a man made of light. Interested yet? You should be! Paranormal or Fantasy readers would love this!

This is a new to me author. Now I can’t wait to see where everyone goes and what is going to happen in the next book. Will Vi end up being the Champion or the the Crown Princess? Will she get to actually see the real Taven? I can’t wait!
I did listen to this on audio and Sarah Sampino did an amazing job with the various voices.

Loved it!

I really liked this book. We always imagine a princess would be above having to learn from the ground up.
Vi has to learn her magic quickly. I love the Fantasy aspect of this story.
Great characters and narration.

This book was a review copy and this is my honest review.

Unique ideas and great narration!

Really enjoyed the magic parts and how Vi and Tavvin are connected; it’s an interesting idea how they communicate with magical means. The beginning is slow to start, but does pick up once Vi’s powers start showing themselves. I haven’t read the previous series that this one is a spin-off of, but I enjoyed this anyway. I do think I may have had a better emotional connection to the characters if I had though, but it’s a plus that I didn’t have any preconceived expectations.

I listened to the audio and the narrator did a great job. She really fit the character of Vi; her voice felt right for the character. I’d recommend it!

Vi has a bit of that naive princess thing going on, but luckily, she starts to mature some. I really don’t get why she feels she can’t be truthful with people about her powers. I might have missed the reason why, but it seemed rather pointless to not discuss it with anyone. The reason she’s kept from her family is stupid as well. She really didn’t need to be away from them since birth; she was supposed to be training or something like that, but that doesn’t happen till she’s older. Vi could’ve stayed with her family till she was in her teens before having to leave, so that whole thing didn’t make sense. I also didn’t like that it seems she may have to have an arranged marriage; that probably won’t happen, but I expect better from parents who went through something similar.

The white death stuff was entertaining and added some much needed action. This book felt like a set-up book towards the adventure and fun to be had, so I’m hoping the next book will have more of that. Also, after reading some reviews that mentioned how disappointed they were about what happened to Vi’s father; I’m thinking they must not have read the whole book because there’s hope on that front, so don’t let that deter you as of yet.

Overall, entertaining and unique with a lot of potential for adventure.
