Publisher's summary

Akrist has done the impossible—bonded with a dragon—and word is spreading.

Betrayed, broken, and banished, he is left to wander the wilderness in search of his lost love, Yara. But Akrist is not alone. Against all odds, he has bonded with Nardiri, one of the world’s last dragons.

In a cruel, unforgiving world, Akrist must navigate what it means to be marked as both a Speaker—a leader chosen by Nasheira herself—and an outcast. Haunted by the sacrifices of first-born sons, he fears the world cannot be changed, even with a dragon’s help. If he does nothing, the cycle of sacrifice will begin again when the moons touch.

I rate this a 4.5 Star story.

4.5 ⭐

From what I see, this is the second book in a duology, BUT if the author writes more in this world, with these characters...I'd love to read more.

The first book did a LOT of the heavy lifting...in the worldbuilding, and also the struggles of the protagonist.

Akryst FINALLY did something that he promise that he'd do. He makes a LOT of mistakes during this story, but NONE of his mistakes were done in malace. He's so new at EVERYTHING, that he's trying his hardest.

Nadiri became a companion, not an animal (goodness, no), and she was protective with Akryst and those that he loved. She asserted her individuality well...and I'm glad that their relationship was built in that way.

The protagonist of THIS story was carried over from the first book. The one that we thought...while reading this book...was just a pawn.

The worldbuilding that was done during this story was done magnificently. The mystery of what was going to happen was understood. while learning all the new things of the surrounding environment.

There are SO many things that I want to say, but I don't to spoil ANYONE'S reading experience.

The characters in THIS books are three dimensional. The enemies and the friends, and even those that were lost.

I want to say this, I love Rowen. His growth as young child...that had gone through tremendous hardship, then became part of a "found family" story was very enjoyable to read/listen to.

The charades that he did to explain his name was hilarious...and Nadiri's commentary was funny, too.

The end of this story was SO satisfying. I am so thankful and grateful to have read this story...by the gift of the author. Thank you.
