Publisher's summary

"Viola Pumpernickel, you might just be the bravest girl in London."

Viola is a people-watcher. She loves to sit on the step of her father's bakery in Brookwater Lane, creating stories about the weird and wonderful folk who pass by. Her father is secretly impressed by her big imagination, but her mother thinks it's all a bit silly, really.

So when Viola witnesses a terrifying robbery late one evening, her theory as to who is behind this dreadful crime is met with rolled eyes and disbelief. Determined to prove she is not as silly as everyone believes, Viola sets out to bring this villain to justice and show that she is more than just a girl with a wild imagination.

Together with her older brother, Teddy, her best friend, Flo, and the mysterious Emerald Lady, Viola uncovers a plot far more dangerous than anyone could ever have imagined in this exciting Victorian mystery.

Praise for Viola Pumpernickel and the Emerald Lady:

"A gripping tale with twists and turns galore. You will root for Viola till the very end!" (Jennifer Killick, author of Alex Sparrow and the Big Stink and Alex Sparrow and the Furry Fury)

Absorbing tale. My attention was riveted.

I was not sure what to expect, but this book kept me listening. Excellent story telling the narration was great. This was an excellent story and I look forward to other books in the series.

For young readers

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Viola has a wild imagination. Or is she really seeing what she sees?

I didn’t get far enough to find out before I realized this book wasn’t for me. I am and older adult.

The voice actress didn’t keep me enthralled either but that is just me.

Ok for a middle grade story

This started out really strong and it was interesting in the beginning! I was intrigued! But then the story felt like it went in a lot of different directions and it became confusing. I shouldn't be confused for a middle grade book, but this didn't feel coherent.

The narration was excellent, I loved all the different tones of voice used so that was perfect. Story however was lacking for me. A cute read for a middle grade age child but pretty average otherwise.
