Excellent

I really enjoyed the heartwarming story. Yes I know it was during the war but the things they did to stay alive and do things for others. Always has to be a bad person who really don't care of others but himself. The joy of others helping others even thinking of doing something great for the soldiers to keep their feet warm. Falling in love for the for the first time. All kinds of emotions in the story.

A Wonderful Story

A must read that takes us back to World War II. It tells us of how families suffered losses and triumphs over trials.

Not my favorite. Not the worst book ever.

I wanted to love this. But the summary is not at all what the book is about. Instead, it’s a nicely told tale of a young girl who rises above a lot of struggles during the war. It’s not a bad book, just not one I loved.

One thing though...and this may be because I listened with earbuds, the narrator continually clicked her tongue during this and drove me nuts! She did a great job otherwise, but I almost had to stop listening just because it was so bad.

Lovely story

I enjoyed this story very much, the first I have read centred in Coventry. The poignant story of a young girl caught alone in the horror of the terrible bombings of Coventry. Rich characters and a wonderful tale of sadness and joy and fear and strength.

My least favorite WW II book ever

I can't believe how many stars this has. It was SO slow and contrived. The characters took 28 chapters to figure out the most obvious "plot twist" ever imagined. I know it was a different time and the British are known for their "stiff upper lip" but if I had to read one more "we better not do anything about this, it's none of our buisness" I think I would scream. The parts that were directly related to the war were totally glossed over and major things that happened took no time at all but the same arguments and discussions over and over and over again with the same words in the same spot took for ever. Ugh. I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this when I could have been listening to something else. The narrator was fine for what she was reading but I sure didn't get lost in this story. I just wanted them to hurry up and get it over with. Since I usually basically mourn after reading most historical fiction books (I usually want to know more and I am sad to not be able to continue the story) maybe that's a good thing but I would not recommend this book to anyone.
