Publisher's summary

1917 Vienna. Fiona follows Fredrick Fredricks to Vienna, where she gets caught up in a royal mess.

File clerk turned British agent, Fiona Figg, is more comfortable wearing a fake mustache than a ballgown.

When a royal ball ends with a royal body in the middle of the dance floor, Fiona trades her dancing slippers for practical Oxfords and sets out to investigate.

As she tracks her nemesis, the Black Panther, from Vienna to the Austrian countryside, a hunting accident makes her rethink her loyalties.

Can Fiona prevent the Black Panther from striking again, save her own skin, and find a decent cup of tea, all before the emperor realizes she’s a spy?

Narrator :(

I really want to like this story but the narrator is too distracting. I don’t know where she’s from but her accents need a lot to work. Even her English accent sounds off. Her voice is lovely but this book would do better to re-cast the narrator for future stories.

And as far as the story goes… this is not the best plot line I’ve heard. It tries too hard to be a-typical and while the writing is decent the storyline is just not that captivating. I had hopes for more cohesion but it just really never comes together.

Enjoyable

Fun, light murder mystery, well read—with a few small mispronunciations (e.g. “blackguard”, Melange, tout de suite, n‘est ce pas“
She has a lovely speaking voice and reads/paces very well, but a tiny bit of research into correct pronunciations of common phrases would polish her performance

GREAT SERIES

Compelling WWI historical series. The author has created a sharp heroine in Fig while Charles is so annoying, we'd like to send him back to Room 40 for another assignment. Enjoyable story. Would like me to hear narrator get more excitable in the next reading. Sounds a bit too monotone.

New narrator, please

Storyline was good, but this book is in desperate need of a new narrator.Armoires are not armories. most assignations are not assassinations. And the pronunciation of the German surname Feuchs leaves a lot to be desired.
