Publisher's summary

She must choose between the man who represents the law and the one who may have taken it into his own hands.

Neglected by her parents for most of her life, Nicole Hunter keeps everyone, especially men, at arms’ length. So when Attorney Gage Kelly walks into the diner where she is waiting tables one evening, she fights her attraction to him with everything she has. Gage and his brother Holden grew up in an abusive home, and Gage has baggage of his own. But the connection between him and Nicole is too strong to ignore, and Gage manages to convince them both that their relationship is worth the risk. Then children begin disappearing in the night.

When Detective Daniel Grey starts to close in on the child snatcher, and enlists Nicole’s help, she faces her deepest fear. Everything and everyone she has clung to so tightly could be ripped from her, leaving her completely alone.

Except for one.

Intriguing

First, I am NOT a fan of love triangles, but Sara Davison wrote this one really well.

For the rest of the story, it's very intriguing. It begs you to ask the question, what would you do to protect children if the legal system has failed them time and again. An interesting question to ponder.

Powerful

Vigilant is a powerful and well written book. Of course, the romance, twists, and intrigue kept me completely enthralled and entertained, but it also has a thought provoking message that makes this book meaningful. I appreciate, above all else, the message of the saving power of Jesus and the question of ‘how are we to be His hands and feet?’. I’m a newbie to this author and I’m excited to explore more of her works. The narrator is fantastic. He is able to make a fabulous book even more riveting through his performance. I highly recommend this book!

Romantic Suspense

I am actually rather conflicted as to how to rate this romantic suspense. The storyline dealt with the difficult subject of child abuse. The way the author handles this is interesting to say the least, and this is my first conflict. Without giving away too much I did find it difficult to totally agree that vigilantism was the best method of dealing with this, though having said that I did understand the reasoning behind it. My second conflict with the story was the love triangle. I found the male characters a bit too aggressive (almost stalkerish) and thought that they fell in love too quickly with Nicole without really knowing her. On the other hand Nicole was so undecided one minute and in the next would make unreasonable decisions. My final conflict was the way the book ended. I do know that things in life don’t always work out perfectly however when I pick up a novel I expect to feel good after I put it down and feel like the characters should be happy at the end. The ending was very disappointing to me and bothered me for a long time afterwards. I apologize if I have given too much away, however this is my honest opinion of the book. It was very well written and thought out and certainly kept my interest throughout so please don’t get me wrong, I did not dislike it. I just felt conflicted with several aspects of it. I give the story three and a half stars and have rounded it up to four. The narrator did a wonderful job with the narration and made listening to it easy. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook, however I have voluntarily provided this unbiased review.

Just Okay

A decent story but the further it went along the more characters did things that seemed implausible. Some story lines were never finished and from time to time the author seemed to think, “Oh yes, it’s time to throw a religious reference in.
