For more than two years, he held Seattle in a terror grip. A cold-blooded killer who abducted young mothers right in front of their sons and murdered them execution style. Then, as suddenly as the killings began, they seemed to stop.
Susan Blanchette is looking forward to a relaxing weekend getaway with her fiance, Allen, and young son, Matthew. But something about the remote lake house doesn't feel right. A woman vanished from the area a year ago, and now Susan thinks she's spotted someone lurking around the property. And when Allen disappears, her fear grows....
A psychopath has returned, ready to strike again. Someone who can't resist the urge to kill, who derives pleasure from others' pain, and who is drawing nearer to Susan as each minute of the weekend ticks by. But she's just one pawn at the heart of a killer's deadly game. A killer who is unrelenting, unstoppable, and absolutely vicious....

Not new but very entertaining...
I enjoyed VICIOUS very much. My only wish is that Audible would not rerelease books with the publication date as current. I generally don't check below the publisher's summary for release dates so I guess it's my own fault...
Anyway, this book was originally released in 2010 and being a fan of Kevin O'Brien I can see how his writing has developed (in a good way).
The short review: A woman (Susan Blanchette) is trying to get on with her life after a horrible accident took the lives of her husband and older son. She is now a single mother with her surviving three year old son. She's met a man and has recently become engaged. While away on a trip he's planned things get quirky when he disappears and she begins finding some very very strange things including emails. One email has an attachment of a half naked girl who had gone missing that afternoon. After some investigating she learns there were murders close to the secluded cabin they are renting. And the list goes on. The story was great but the protagonist not so bright. She leaves her three year old napping in the house while she searches their rental boat at the dock. There are a few other head slapping incidents that leave you wondering why!
But all in all this was a fast paced entertaining story that keeps you wondering who right up to the end.
Daniel Thomas May does an excellent job narrating.

Wow! Wow! Wow!
I’ve had a string of books that were very disappointing. So when I read the reviews for Vicious, I was hopeful. Well, let me tell you, this book grabbed me in the first few paragraphs and never, never let go. I usually only listen to my books during my one hour commute to and from work. With this book I listened before, during, and after work! I could not stop. Started it Thursday morning and it’s Saturday afternoon and I’m finished! I love a good suspense/thriller and this is one of the best I’ve read. Great story, great narrator. I highly recommend Viscous. Now, let me check out other Kevin O’Brien books!
