Publisher's Summary

How do venture capital deals come together? This is one of the most frequent questions asked by each generation of new entrepreneurs. Surprisingly, there is little reliable information on the subject. No one understands this better than Brad Feld and Jason Mendelson.

The founders and driving force behind the Foundry Group - a venture capital firm focused on investing in early-stage information technology companies - Brad and Jason have been involved in hundreds of venture capital financings. Their investments range from small startups to large Series A venture financing rounds. The new edition of Venture Deals continues to show fledgling entrepreneurs the inner-workings of the VC process, from the venture capital term sheet and effective negotiating strategies to the initial seed and the later stages of development.

Fully updated to reflect the intricacies of startups and entrepreneurship in today's dynamic economic environment, this new edition includes revisions and updates to coverage on negotiating, gender issues, ICO's, and economic terms. New chapters examine legal and procedural considerations relevant to fundraising, bank debt, equity and convertible debt, how to hire an investment banker to sell a company, and more.

Must read for entrepreneurs trying to raise fund

You probably should get the actual book though because there are examples of term sheets that you want to have in written format

Excellent content, not to be passively read

Venture Deals is an excellent introduction into the world of venture financing that was meant for those actually getting involved in venture financing. I found the quality of the information to be excellent, though occasionally difficult to process in its audio form without having personal experience with financing. If someone wants to truly understand the information present, they might need to read it several times, or at the least have a physical copy of the book to accompany the listen. Nevertheless, excellent read for anyone in the industry or who is just curious!

The best book for those new to venture capital, especially the entrepreneur.

The book was outstanding, easy to understand, and full of real life examples. I highly recommend it for any entrepreneur, even those with previous venture capital experience.

Where are the accompanying spreadsheets?

Useful entrepreneur, angel, VC info but some chapters are essentially talking through cap tables and term sheets. It is unconscionable that a book like this doesn't have an accompanying website with the example cap tables and term sheets.

So good I have it in THREE formats.

I have this on Audible, Kindle, and Hardcover. It's my VC Bible and I cut my teeth on raising capital with it. I don't think any startup founder should be without it. I give it as gifts to other founder friends, and it's required reading in my c-suite!

Dense Book

Very informative and detailed book for entrepreneur and VC or anyone interested in the topic. Only downside, I would have preferred to get a physical copy instead since there are some calculations that doesn't translate will in audio.

Must read

It’s full of essential information if you are dealing with VCs in any way, shape or form. A hard copy would be useful for reference, though

Valuable but sometimes boring

Abundance of practically useful information for entrepreneurs. As a would-be startuper I found it also enlightening on how Venture Capitalists marker in general works.

On the downside, sometimes the “plot” is a bit boring, the terms are often expressed in legal terms as if you were reading the term sheet itself.
