Publisher's summary

The tormented soul of a beast.

Created to be a mindless, bloodthirsty monster, Varnog chose to live an honorable life instead. From the day he joined the Vanguard, he’s only had eyes for one female. Petite and delicate in appearance, she awakens his protective instincts and a deep longing for something he can never have. However, his Linette has no need for protection. The elite pilot and Senior Officer of the Vanguard kicks ass and takes names with the best of them. With the final war against the Kryptid General looming on the horizon, he and Linette are called upon to help prepare the Vanguard and their allies for that ultimate confrontation.

But how can he when his every instinct demands he slaughters those he has pledged loyalty to? How can he persevere when many among the Coalition perceive him and his brothers as no more than the parasites they were born to be? What hope is there when claiming the one female to have ever touched his heart could turn her into an even greater abomination than he believes himself to be?

Another great story!

Varnog got his HEA! This was another great addition to this series. We love that with each book, the characters are fully developed no matter what part they play in the story. We learn enough about both the main and side characters to understand their motivations, why they are where they are, doing what they're doing.

In this story, Varnog is shown as the bad ass he is, yet his vulnerable side is fully realized. Even though we saw him in previous books, there was a nice amount of 'deep diving' we didn't see before into why he felt the way he did about his place in the Vanguard and the world in general. We also like that all of the Vanguard males respect the abilities of the women in the story. We also get to see things from various character's points of view (one of our favorite things!).

The narrator did a good job distinguishing the characters so we always knew who was talking and when.

Just the right amount of action and romance. Very very nice, indeed!

4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Varnog" by Regine Abel is a standout addition to the series, and it's evident that the author has raised the bar with this book. The characters of Varnog and Linette are a delightful pair, their personalities and the passion they share jump off the pages, making for an emotionally charged read. This story had me both laughing and shedding a few tears, which is a testament to the depth of their connection. Abel's storytelling is as captivating as ever, keeping readers hooked until the very last page. If you've been following this series, "Varnog" is a must-read, and if you're new to it, this book serves as a great entry point to a world of compelling romance and memorable characters.
