Good Story with Timeless Relevance

I have read many books by Janette Oke, and this one is very similar in that she has excellent character development, in which their is tension, sorrow or difficulties, and interesting and great things happening in unexpected ways.

Having been brought up as an orphan, living in various foster homes and children's homes, I could relate to how powerful a caring person can be in the lives of children who have so little.

I love historical fiction. How it can open ones eyes to the past and how things could have been. But, in this case there is much in our current world that the book can also open up our eyes to.

I am being careful not to give away the story, since you can read enough about it from the publishers and other reviews (mostly on Amazon [though the number is still small]). I think, if one looked for a "take home" message from the story, it would be to make a difference where you are. Though in the scope of any one life the amount of time given to any one cause might not be huge, and might not seem significant to an individual, it could be VERY Huge to those whom it impacts.

Loved the book for entertainment value, but also it rang true regarding displaced children in any time, and prejudices that can further damage them--yet, how life saving change can come in surprising ways.

Touching and inspiring

Janette Oke books have been my go to ever since I realized the Hallmark show “When Calls The Heart” was based on her novels. I fell in love with the series the show was based on (books are WAY better). As someone who has a tender heart for children this book was inspirational as well as entertaining. The story of two sisters answering God’s call and loving/accepting children into their hearts and lives touched me deeply. I’m so excited to start the next book in the series, and I haven’t looked, but I hope it won’t be the last!!

This story left you hanging at the end! There Must be a book 2, because the writer left you with to many unanswered questions. It will be very disappointed if there is no book 2!!!😕

Story was great, ended horribly

The story was great until the abrupt and confusing end. Really leaves you hanging as if the electric went out in the middle of a cliff hanger on a tv show. Otherwise it’s very good.

Fell flat

The story was good and educational, but for me it just wasn’t a page turner. The ending will definitely entice me onto the next book in hopes of a bit more appeal. I give it four stars because as with all of Okes books, it is well written and a good story. I recognize that it just wasn’t as much to my taste as some of her other stories.

A delightful story

So easy to listen too! So full of hope. Love the childrens story and the narrator’s way of sharing. It felt like you were there! Love the Christian aspects and the way God worked in everyone’s life. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Long time Janette Oke fan

I chose this title and then after listening to a few chapters realized it is a series I have been watching on tv for the last couple of years. Great history lesson into the plight of orphans and great spiritual lessons.
