Publisher's Summary

Posey Osterhagen can't complain. She owns a successful architectural salvaging company, she's surrounded by her lovable, if off-center, family, and she has a boyfriend-sort of. Still, something's missing. Something tall, brooding and criminally good-looking - something like Liam Murphy.

When Posey was 16, the bad boy of Bellsford, New Hampshire, broke her heart. But now he's back, sending Posey's traitorous schoolgirl heart into overdrive once again. She should be giving him a wide berth, but it seems fate has other ideas....

1st for this author and narrator

I've been listening to this book while confined to my computer instead of listening to background music. I really enjoyed this book, though I wasn't sure I would. At first glance, Posey seems like a weak female character, which I don't particularly like. But, she really isn't exactly. She let too many people get away with treating her crappy. But, she had just enough something to make me keep listening. She deals with a lot of things anyone could relate to in a very realistic, even if not preferable IMO, way. Even when I was routing for her to tell Liam to take a flying leap off of a rolling doughnut over the highest cliff, her reactions were believable, if not irritating. You know people like this who aren't exactly doormats, but take way too much crap. When I thought she should tell her cousin, Dante, and a few others to join Liam on that doughnut, still her actions were relatable even if a little frustrating. She's like many people you know who happen to have a slow fuse. And, those people can be very frustrating to those of us with a short fuse. And, I couldn't even dislike Liam. He was just conflicted. This book was well done, with very likable characters even though you might want to smack them at times. Loved her brother in law, John. Xe Sands did a great job with all the characters. But, I really liked her characterization of him.
This was my first time listening to Xe Sands. She has a very different style that worked well with this book. And, she really pulls you in.

Is This a Joke?

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Harlequin Romance readers circa 1980.

Has Until There Was You turned you off from other books in this genre?

I know this is fiction, but how much crap can anyone take? I did not like the book because the storyline was ridiculous and the main character was a doormat. This book was really about Liam and his relationship with his daughter. The worst part is that he had to be coerced throughout the book to be interested in the main character.......Yuck. This was not a good book.

What about Xe Sands’s performance did you like?

You can hear the humor in her voice. I really liked her performance. It was the only good thing about the book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Until There Was You?

All the scenes with her cousin. I think they were added to help us feel more sorry for the main character, but they just annoyed me.

Any additional comments?

I want my credit back. I have all of her audiobooks. This was my least favorite.

Sweet Story

Until There Was You by Kristan Higgins (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Xe Sands

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This was a sweet story, though similar to the last one I listened to - where the heroine has loved a man since they were teenagers. This time however it was the hero of the story she loved AND we got to see some of the story from his pov! Which I always enjoy.

I liked Posey and Liam together. Both were independent and happy with themselves. I found it funny how over protective Liam was towards his daughter, always saying he knew what the teenage boys were thinking having been one himself. I liked how he put his daughter first, even though it made him seem cold towards Posey sometimes.

Posey was caring and sweet, this however, seemed to let her get walked on by people at times. She was brave and honest with her feelings though, as well as true to herself which I give her props for. That takes guts to put it all out there, considering she's been hurt by him before. - That statement in the summary gave me pause. I hate when people go back to the people that hurt them.. or in this case, never stop loving that person in spite of being hurt. Again, I had this book stored away for later reading.. but it's Kristan Higgins.. She's great! and she made this scenario seem okay in the end for me, as I kinda hoped she would.

The narrated of course was awesome. I have to say, she is one of my favourites! Sarcastic, and witty, she has a sexy male voice she uses for the hero's which is better than some of the male narrators I have heard. She is one of the main reasons I have moved up these last couple books from the depths of my tbr pile.

A book for all ages!

I've listened to all but two of Kristan Higgins' books and have listened to them at least three or four times each. This book will be no exception. I loved it.

DNF

Couldn’t stand how the main character lets the hero walk all over her feelings again and again. Hero is totally self-involved and clueless.

Beautiful love story

I laughed, cried and enjoyed this entire book. The story felt so real, one could almost feel their selves experiencing the story first hand.

Light and Happy

This is an enjoyable listen but not one of Kristan Higgins’ best. The characters are not particularly likable, especially the heroine who, at the age of 30, is still insecure and infatuated with her high school crush. The narration is okay. I know some listeners really like Xe Sands’ narrating style but I find her voice breathy and monotone. The story is a light, predictable romance with a solid HEA ending.

Until There Was You

Absolutely charming! Posey is all kinds of great! In high school she was tagged with the moniker "bag of bones" and this lead to a devastating prom date and losing faith in her crush. Now, Liam is back in town, a widower and dad of a teenage daughter and they are struggling to cope with his over-protective ways and learning to survive a budding new teen romance. Watching Liam and Posey/Cordelia come together was so, so, SO wonderful. These two brought out all the feels and me smiling my way through this one. Kudos to this author for writing a spunky woman! Definitely a recommendation from me!
