Publisher's summary

Not all heroes are good guys.

With a body count on his soul and blood on his hands, Killian Nox lived in the gray. Ruthlessly single-minded, if he wanted something, it was his. And when it came to the gorgeous lass with a fiery attitude, he didn't just want her.

He needed her.

With southern-bred manners and a snark all her own, Augusta "Gus" Allan was a connoisseur of cheap wine, delicious Mexican food, and good TV. Unfortunately, her taste in men wasn't as well-developed. When her knight in shining armor turned out to be a douche in tinfoil, Gus never expected her real hero to be a sexy-accented, tattooed beast of a man.

But he was exactly who she needed.

Gus had no clue how comforting a monster in the dark could be....

Until Nox.

I love Nox!

I read this book back before I started actively writing reviews, so with the release of the audiobook this was the perfect opportunity to finally rectify that.

Augusta “Gus” Allan was just in the process of moving in with her boyfriend when that was interrupted by finding out he was cheating on her. Lucky for her, Nox just happened to live next door and witnessed the whole scene and gave her an opportunity to stay at his place in exchange for watching his dog while he was gone for three weeks. Apprehensive in the beginning but realizing she was basically homeless she accepts. Even though they are separated for the majority of the beginning, you can feel the chemistry between these two with just the phone calls and text messages. But when he gets back early and convinces her to stay, this is when their relationship starts to really develop.

Until Nox is part of the 2018 Happily Ever Alpha World so we also get see the Maysons in their story. When Gus is notified by Susan Mayson that her Meema is hospitalized, Gus runs back home to Tennessee. It was so great to catch up with the Mayson clan. This move really accelerated Gus and Nox’s relationship, and due to the help of the Hyde clan they give him the push to claim Gus as his own.

I seriously loved this book so hard! Killian Nox is one bada$$ alpha male and the way he is with Gus is so very very swoon-worthy. He is possessive, protective and so dang sexy. Gus was just so hilarious, she is one feisty southern woman with the best comebacks.

As for the audio version, I remember reading this novella back in April of 2018 and kept thinking how sexy the accented Nox must have sounded so when the announcement came out that this one was coming out in audio, I 1-clicked it as fast as I could!! The narrators, Alex Kydd and Lauren Sweet were amazing!!! Their performance completely exceeded my expectations. I’ve listened to it multiple times and still has not gotten old. 5-stars for the book version and 5-stars for the audio version!

Amazing!!

2nd read audiobook review: I love to get the audiobooks of my favorite books to do my many re-reads and this one did not disappoint. Loved it the second time around and loved the narrators.

1st read kindle review: I'm pretty sure I have a girl crush on Layla Frost because she is freaking amazing! Everything she writes turns me into a giddy school girl and I have no shame.

First let me just bring up that amazing cover. I mean really. That tattooed arm. Dress shirt rolled up to the elbows. The hand holding a scotch, a cigar and wearing a skull ring. Enough said.

Another reason I'm so in love with Ms. Frost's books is that she writes fantastic heroines. I love them almost as much as I love the hero's. Gus was hilarious. Her sarcastic nature and her inner thoughts had me laughing out loud. I loved her for Nox. She fit him and was exactly what he needed. Her and her meema were highly entertaining!

Nox is every girls dream of a bad boy! I literally watched the Justice League right before starting this book and after hearing the description of Nox, I coudln't help but envision Jason Mamoa. Let me tell, this was no hardship on me. I loved everything about Nox, especially the way he worshiped Gus.

It was such a treat getting more from the Hyde series and it was fun seeing the Mayson's from the Until series by Aurora Rose Reynolds. Layla rocked this one so hard! I can't wait to see what the other authors are doing with the Kindle World book series. ARC provided by author.

Pulled right in!

I absolutely FLOVED this story. It was so well told and I felt like I was right there with the characters.
The only thing I didn’t like about the narration was the way the text was read. It sounded a little awkward to me, though when reading the book myself it was fine.
Overall, I highly recommend this book and author. I can’t wait to read more from them!

This was so amazing!!

This was my first book by this author and both narrators! Such an awesome story and the narration was absolutely perfect! Irish and Scottish accents are not favorite 😍 so this was such a treat!

I loved Nox! And he's got an accent!

Audiobook: Narrators - Alex Kydd and Lauren Sweet

If ever there was a book to listen to, this is it! I loved Nox when I read him but holy heck, listening to him pushed this book into a whole other atmosphere! I didn't want it to end. And let me say, I needed more of him even while I had him. I was worried I wouldn't like the performance, that the narrator wouldn't be able to pull his accent off, but I couldn't have asked for anything better than what we were given. I did struggle some with his narration of the female voice - Gus is a southern lass. Ms. Sweet did an amazing job of that southern charm and I fell in love with these characters all over again.

This was a great novella with Ms. Frost’s trademark humor and steamy scenes. Gus, the heroine, was so freaking cute with her inner monologue. She was snarky and smart, tough but kind and gentle. The type of heroine who you’d want as your best friend. Killian Nox was absolutely dreamy and so very swoon worthy! With his Scottish accent I was a goner from the moment he first spoke. Who doesn’t love an accent, and the way he pronounced certain words reminded me throughout the book that he was the real deal.

I loved the way this story unfolded so naturally. Nothing felt forced or contrived and despite its length, it had the feel of a full book. It’s a very low angst read and not high on drama and yet it was constantly moving forward. And the steam factor, while coming a bit later in the book – but again completely organic to their relationship – was off the charts. The chemistry between these two was apparent from their first moments together. They sizzled!

This is a fast paced read that is excellently written with a rhythm that pulls you in and keeps you turning pages. There is no other woman drama but some man drama due to a break up Gus has with her current boyfriend.

I fell in love with Gus’ meema as well and I hate the thought that I might never meet her again in future books. There were some cameos from the Maysons which was fun. This author has an awesome talent for secondary characters. Each one I met I just wanted to know more about them. She did this to me in her first series as well. I need more Ms. Frost!

I. Need. More!

Boring with next to no romance

80% of this book is each MCs own separate boring ass story.

Seriously, 60% of the way in, and they'd only been on page together 3 times, briefly, even though they're under the same roof. Then it was them separated with phone calls sprinkled here and there. 3 sentence phone calls.

The story we were getting at the 70% mark is something that only belonged in the first 10% and even then, it was irrelevant shit no reader would care about. Just their boring ass day to day lives that we don't give a shit about. Bunch of side characters stories told through Nox that mean absolutely nothing and do nothing to contribute to this story. We got in depth play by play of her gmas health. Idgaf about her grandmother. I really don't. I'm here for some romance and spice. Not strokes and Hospitals. We're in a Hospital setting here foooooorever. Like foooorever.

The only real romance was each of them swooning over eachother in their inner monologues. Then, once things finally do start to develop between them it did not feel organic at all. There was no natural relationship progression here. And I don't mean they went from nothing to hot sex. I can deal with that. I mean from nothing to her running into his arms. Followed by a 20 min introduction to her gma. It's important to note this is like the first real lengthy interaction Hh have had and we spend a ton of time with her gma in her hospital room.

There's also a ton of info dumping. About dumb things that don't matter at all. Like detailing the steps in walking down a hall type of dumb.

Only gave it 2* because I did like how much H liked h even though we only knew that because of his inner monologue and I loved h. Her personality was great.

Only got through it by ff through tons and tons of this. Even when I'd skip ahead 5 min, I'd still be hearing about so and so who we'll never meet and that time they did that thing well never see that will never pertain to this story.

How in tf does this book have the rating it does???? Did i read an entirely different book than everyone else?

There's not a single sex scene or any real romance until the last hour of the book and everything before that was everything BUT relationship development. Even the sex scene was boring.

Great listen, but too short.

loved it, but would have loved more of a background to the characters like The books before. I wish the rest of the series was on Audible.
