Story
Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair. For those who don't want a lifetime subscription to "settle-for-less", there is an alternative.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Publisher's Summary
You live in your dream house, but there's no mortgage. No alarm clock, no boss, no bills. No claims on the day's time other than what you choose. It is making more money before breakfast than you made for an entire week at your last job. It is a crazy expensive car parked in your garage, a victorious symbol that your dreams no longer sleep in fantasies, but are awake with reality.
Make no mistake, this life exists. I know, because it has been mine for nearly 20 years. And in a few short years, it can be yours as well. Better, you won't need five tedious decades of thankless jobs, buzz killing frugality, and patient investing with our trusted friends on Wall Street.
Unfortunately, you have been scripted to believe that such a life is out of your reach, or only possible for a certain type of person. Someone with a certain college degree, a certain amount of VC funding, or a certain contact list of connected friends from Stanford. I am here to tell you, that none of it is true.
While I have been entrepreneur most of my life, I am no one special. You won't read about me over at Tech Crunch or in some Silicon Valley newsletter. While I have been an Internet entrepreneur since the old "you've got mail" AOL days, I have never been funded by venture capitalists, I have never had a payroll with more than five people on it, and I have never studied computer science at school.
Despite this, I am able to create profitable businesses that create the type of unscripted life described above.

Top 5 Entrepreneurship of all time!
I don’t ever usually read two books by the same author because most authors no matter how good they are have so much bleed over from their other books that it’s basically like reading the same book over but reworded a little bit. However, this book stands a lone from MJ’s ‘the millionaire fast lane’. Anyone wanting to start a business should read both of his books. There are so many terrible “do what you love” or “think yourself to success” books out there and they’re all the same, bullcrap! This book isn’t like any of them. It’s the reality of business and entrepreneurship, no sugar coated but brutally honest.

Good but
Not as good as the first book. The author introduced a good material but contradict himself several times. He started with a good (known) fact that our lives are scripted and I promise to unscript it for you. Fine, then he start an unnecessary war against personal finance authors by making fun of their basics: saving, changing the way to view money, alter the bad money-management behavior, investing, giving more getting...etc.
Fine again, then he spend some chapters giving advice about how to find the perfect business and how to manage it, which was the best part pf the book. Finally, and here’s the strange part, the author starts giving the same personal finance advice that he waged war against those who gave it to their readers. He endorses saving and changing the way we should view money and offers ways to invest in stocks and bonds and how to split our money....
The three stars rating is basically just for the business part, all other chapters are just a mix of humor and bad-wording the “scripted” mentality

Hopeless, don't waste your time
It's not that I disagree with the author for his views infact I completely agree to what he said in his first book - Millionaire Fast Lane which was so much more valuable and pleasing to hear... I heard that book more than 5 times until now and I still love it! However, this book is just not worth it since there's nothing new in this book... Lot of filler and very abrasive language with same message. Stick with the first book only since it's enough to get your thinking on the right track. MJ understands that his first book was hit and so wants to leverage his reputation to make same money again from his second book.. Have returned this already and listening to the first book (fast lane) - its so interesting and engaging...

Must Listen!!!
I really enjoyed The Millionaire Fastlane, and this book is a great follow up to that masterpiece. There is a fair bit of strong language, but if you can look past that it is well worth the listen. Candid, honest to a fault, and just telling it like it is. I loved the dry sarcastic overtones, they serve to emphasize how ridiculous modern economic slavery really is. Narration was well done, very professional and easy to listen to, so I'm pleased with the overall experience.

A wake up call for those wanting more out of life
MJ has done it again.
Unscripted is a prequel to The Millionaire Fastlane, in my opinion, although both books stand alone.
The book covers all the underlying things required to get the right mindset and create valuable businesses that serve and add value to the world, while allowing you to become wealthy and be untethered from a J.O.B.
Read/listen to it multiple times to allow the message to sink in.

Making money, yeah. Cut the rant though.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Absolutely. I love the author's "let's get it done" philosophy, but later on in the book it just feels like a rant. He even starts backlashing about fat-shaming.
Honestly, I just want to learn about entrepreneurship. I don't need a social commentary (complete with excessive cussing).
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Despite my previous comments about the book turning into a social commentary, it's well worth the purchase.
I wouldn't call this a story, but the information offered in three quarters of this title makes it worth while.
Like I said, however, it later turns into a social commentary (yawn).
Have you listened to any of Scott Thomas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but this voice actor is amazing. He kept me up late at night with his enthusasm -- despite the title being extremely long.
Who do you think would benefit most from listening to Unscripted?
Anyone looking to get ahead in life, or planning on opening (or wanting to improve on) their business.
Any additional comments?
Overall, the book is worth the purchase. It is well written, and narrated fantastically.
I just want to turn it off when I start to hear the rant about people the author doesn't believe are putting enough into life. Frankly, he sounds like a bit of a bully near the end; but that won't stop me from taking good info and using it to my advantage.

Shallow, Juvenile, Crude
I read many books, write few reviews, almost none of them negative. This one, though, stands out.
The author takes a fundamentally good concept, that you don't have to buy into the script that ties most of us down, and turns it into a relentless, vulgar rant against the civilization that makes a fundamentally useless contribution such as his possible. While I in no way mind the occasional expletive for emphasis, delete all of the F*** this and BS*** that, and the book would be a third shorter.
Leaving the language aside, and the denigration of the many millions of workers who do useful things like producing food, automobiles, electricity, life saving devices and the many other things and services that are actually essential; the author sells desperate people on the idea that it's easy to throw everything overboard in favor of being an entrepreneur. Sure, it's possible, I've done it myself. But unless you're going to delve into the "get rich quick now" genre of self help that this book is a part of, you will not be able to do the serious work required to build a business that's real and not a trashy internet illusion.

Great book. Probably one of the best books on making money.
This book makes Rich Dad Poor Dad look like a children’s novel. Unscripted is like the red pill for aspiring entrepreneurs. And you might not like the truth.
Not trying to devalue Rich Dad Poor Dad and the countless other get rich books.
But if you’re short on time and money then read, Millionaire Fastlane ( same author) and Unscripted and you’ll thank me later.

A swearing filled USA rant
At chapter 7 I have requested a refund.
I’ve learned nothing so far apart from how to swear more and I already do enough of that.
I’m based in the U.K. and found constant mentions to American finances and politics alienating.

big book, little substance
it's just really bad. simple to understand points are just repeated, seemingly for padding. the book is filled with useless analogies which add nothing to the context but more padding. nothing useful to be found here. a short summary would be you won't get rich investing pennies and making millions for your boss, which I agree with but didn't need 49 chapters

Ranty, self-satisfied rubbish
Firstly, this book is far too long. The author has packed it with a series of repetitive rants. There’s no meat on the bone. No useful information. There’s a lot of stuff that is obvious to anyone who is dissatisfied with their current situation. There’s a lot of self promotion, self satisfaction and smugness and a general air of judgement of everyone. This isn’t a hand-up or a how to. It’s a demolition of everyone the author feels is beneath him. The tone is angry and overly aggressive. There are far better books out there. I recommend you don’t waste your time on this one, I don’t understand why this books has such good reviews.

precious gems under a layer of repetitive ranting
valuable insights notwithstanding the repetitive rant to unscript oneself. entrepreneurship is hard work, but worthwhile.

Just fantastic MJ
loved every minute of this book, joined the fast lane forum too. Dreams that were dead for years are now back at the forefront or my mind. I stopped reading halfway through to read The Millionaire Fast lane. I highly recommend reading both in order.

A real contrarian...proven right by his results!
I really enjoyed Millionaire Fastlane, which was very much the 'what'. Unscripted is the follow-up and whilst I have heard some say they 'enjoyed' it less than the first book, to me it was like a 'How to manual', which is far more useful. I valued the content so much that I went ahead to order the paperback after finishing the audiobook, as I know I will want to refer back to many of the points MJ DeMarco made.
If you want to succeed in business, then you MUST read this book!

Gone Downhill Dont Buy
Long winded angry rehash of his first book with a huge chip on his shoulder. Heaps of swearing, berating, negative stories with many confusing anecdotes that dont add value. Not sure who this book was aimed at but it failed to deliver.

absolutely terrible
an elementary rant and a rave offering nothing of substance or value. it's loterally just a guy complaining about having to get a job, offering no alternative. ok, he DOES advise to go to his fourm for more information. his fourm is dead. his fourm is dead.

Nothing new
If you've read the Millionaire Fastlane you can literally skip the first half of this book. It's just a giant rant with nothing new.
I loved Fastlane so I picked this up, but it really rehashes everything that was in the previous book. It also doesn't have the same impact when it's not narrated by MJ.
Was hoping to learn something new, but unfortunately didn't deliver for me.

Raped :)
This book been hitting my guts so many times. It highlited so many weak spots in to my mentality. This book is one of those that need to be read several times, while doing what you need to do. I am 43, and I know now ar least a part of the next steps, which I already work on since I've start reading the book. Listening this book was time super well spent! Enjoy and while hearing it resist the pain of the truths! ( I know, I sound cheesy but thats ok )

The narrator reads with the wrong intentions!
I agree that the narrator is dull, boring and I feel he reads with the wrong intentions and I feel the narrator doesn’t quite understand the content of what he is reading. If you can look past the tone of the narrator, you will get SO MUCH MORE from this content. I only really got to enjoy this book the second time I heard it (yes I listened to it twice from start to finish, back to back) because I then understood that the tone of voice had to be forgotten. If you already know there is more to life then a 9-5 day job, but struggle to break through to the other side and truly understand there is another way, then you will absolutely LOVE this, because it explains exactly how to make the breakthrough.
