Vampires are real. That fact has Erin Hamilton thinking she’s headed for crazy town. Still, she can’t deny the intense emotion she experiences when Dante Gabriel sinks his teeth into her neck to take her blood. She’s in love, and her body responds to his bite in a way she never could have imagined.
Once Dante tastes Erin’s blood, he’s addicted forever and cannot live without it. He’s heartbroken when she demands that he leave and never return. But neither can live without the other now, which puts them both at risk.
As they struggle to understand the mysterious bond between them and decipher the secrets of the ancient Vampyre Texts, more patients disappear from the hospital. To complicate matters, a gang of vampire thugs chasing Erin, flashbacks increasing in number and clarity, and an ominous dark energy leave Dante on the brink of becoming unhinged.

Narration Type: Dual Narration
The Hero: Dante - he is a pure blood vampire, born from very strong vampires. When he was eighteen years old, he went out one night with his cousin and was kidnapped by a female vampire and her guards. She told him she was his queen and kept him as a blood slave for over a decade. After he went missing, his father and uncle went after him and never returned. After escaping, he went to live with his grandfather who told him he is safe because a ghost is attached to him. Though Dante suffers from PTSD and often hears “her” voice promising he will one day be hers again.
The heroine: Erin - she is an ER nurse and she met Dante on the night he escaped when he was making a mess with the blood in the hospital blood bank. For some reason, she protected him and doesn’t care why he was destroying the blood bank or what he was doing there. She trusts him and can’t stop thinking about him.
The Story: Dante has learned that he has a blood bond with Erin. A blood bond is something almost unheard of but basically means that both parties need each other. Erin needs Dante to feed from her and Dante only craves her blood. She has just learned that vampires exist and doesn’t quite know what to think, despite the fact that she lives in New Orleans, which has long been known to be a haven for vampires. She always thought that was purely fiction.
I must say, I think she overreacted too much to finding out Dante is a vampire. I mean she has spent time with him, ate meals with him, fallen in love with him and he hasn’t hurt her, so her going nuts when she finds out, is a bit over the top. I liked the two main characters in this book, but at times they were both quite clueless. Dante was clueless about what “she” did to him while he was held captive, and he didn’t seem to want to really find out how to get rid of her and the hold she had over him. Erin was clueless about everything to do with vampires and about things happening at her hospital. She also had vampire bites that Dante didn’t give her, and she should have been able to figure out what happened and who did it, but she was pretty stupid about it.
Another thing that bothered me was how Dante kept thinking about the things he was keeping from Erin, then he would think that he would tell her, just not right now. He kept making up reasons he couldn’t tell her right away, like the fact that she was having trouble with the fact that he was a vampire, so he wouldn’t tell her yet about the blood bond, or about the fact that he was a blood slave for ten years, or the fact that his sister was pregnant with her brother’s baby.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Lauren Rowe and John Lane. Lauren has a nice soft voice but her tempo is a bit stilted so you can tell she is reading. John has a very deep voice which works well for a large paranormal male. Overall, the narration was fine but neither of these are in my list of favorite narrators.
