Heroine is a bit difficult to like

I love Mary Balogh, and I enjoyed this book, but I had a really hard time with the heroine. She was unreasonably obstinate. The Hero was a very nice guy, actually....
Ms. Landor did a fantastic job, as usual.

All angst to the end

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Noone

What could Mary Balogh have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Read or listen to all her book & love them & relisten or reread them BUT this one did not even seem like she wrote it.

Which scene was your favorite?

None

What character would you cut from Unforgiven?

None

Any additional comments?

This was filled with irritating angst. There is enough of it in the real world. I read romance to escape from such..give me love & tenderness with good story not constant bickering!!

Should have taken heed

Would you try another book from Mary Balogh and/or Rosalyn Landor?

yes

What was most disappointing about Mary Balogh’s story?

Heroine...she was so annoying... she have to defy the hero at every turn...every turn...take it down a notch.

What about Rosalyn Landor’s performance did you like?

Rosalyn was great per usual.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

More of a prelude to the 3rd book...

Any additional comments?

Since i like to complete series i am glad i listen to this but it is the weakest book in the trilogy.

Not her best

At the risk of a spoiler, a critical plot element in this book relies on the stupidest excuse for having sex I've about ever read.

Long and goes nowhere

Ugh. If you like a book full of silly arguing and an ending that barely resolves anything go ahead. As usual Rosalyn Landor great in narration.

My Musings

At about the half way mark, I wondered if this book would not live up to the high standards I expect from Ms. Balogh. I really struggled with liking the heroine and at times wished I could shake some sense into, but with her unfailingly talented way, Mary turned her around and had me sighing at the end. So glad i read/listened to this one. As always Ms. Landor was fabulous. Happy reading!

This one was tedious and difficult to get through:(((

After reading countless Mary Balogh novels I can say with certainty that this was my LEAST
favorite. (Especially since I had just finished “Indiscreet” which was wonderful!) The heroine in this novel was completely unlikeable!
She was bad-tempered, irritating, and just plain mean for a good portion of the book! Frankly, the H had the patience of a saint and I kept wondering why he even loved her! I stuck with it for the mentions of Katharine and Rex from the previous book! Ah, now THERE was a loving and lovable couple!

Mary Mary Mary :(

First of all, I would listen to Rosalyn Landor read the phone book. I normally love love love Mary Balogh's books, however this one was a huge miss for me. The hero and heroine argued the entire length of the book; seriously! Neither of them grew or learned anything about their behavior until the very end. I really don't know how I finished it, but I guess I kept hoping one of them would wake up!!! Again, I usually would read/listen to anything written by Ms. Balogh, but this was a painful listen. Again, Rosalyn Landor is flawless and I listen to anything she narrates.

An Impossible Heroine

I would give this book 4 stars normally, I usually give Mary Baloghs books 5 stars but I could not tolerate the heroine! The reader was perfect!
