Publisher's Summary

"An outstanding debut-confident, compelling, with a surprise around every corner. I loved it." (Jane Harper, New York Times best-selling author of The Dry)

Producer Jack Quick knows how to frame a story. So says Curtis Wade, the subject of Jack's new true crime docuseries, convicted of a young woman's murder four years prior. In the eyes of Jack's viewers, flimsy evidence and police bias influenced the final verdict...even though, off screen, Jack himself has his doubts.

But when the series finale is wildly successful, a retrial sees Curtis walk free. And then another victim turns up dead.

To set things right, Jack goes back to the sleepy vineyard town where it all began, bent on discovering what really happened. Because behind the many stories he tells, the truth is Jack's last chance. He may have sprung a killer from jail, but he's also the one that can send him back.

Too long

Not a bad story but waaaaay too long and draw out. I don’t often wish for a book to end but I couldn’t wait for this one to be over

A Best in Mysteries

This was one of the longer books I have listened to but I could not put it down. There was a twist and turn all the way through. The characters were so real. The story so spellbinding. Highly recommend.

don't bother

i could not wait for the book to end. It is very wordy and confusing and I read a good amount of crime and mystery , so i feel i am a decent judge in this genre.

I recommend 50%

I really enjoyed the first half of this novel, but the second part ... ugh! Too long, too inane, too implausible, too many unnecessary, ridiculous twists. This novel would have truly benefited from judicious editing. I say skip this one.

What a Surprise!

Got a little confused right from the start. Little kids and then a tragedy and back to now. Then they bounced back and forth. would I read it again - probably not.

Doesn’t capture my interest

After 15 Chapters….dull. Can’t get into the story. Characters are uninteresting. Waste of time.

Narration is great, but…

It’s sad when the best part of the story is the narration. The narration is great! Each character was distinct and I enjoyed his performance. The premise seemed interesting, a podcast frees a killer, but could the killer actually be guilty. I don’t know where the author went wrong, but he took an interesting premise and made a dull and boring book. I would not recommend this book, the narrator-yes, but not this author.

So many plot twists

This is a real nail biter. So we’ll written, every single word counts. Smart, dramatic, and thoughtful.

Creative with and ending you’ll never expect!

I’ll admit I was lost several times! The main character is a mixture of brilliant, shady and should be in therapy himself 😂 So many possible suspects that even the author seems confused until the last scene!
